SF Daysail aboard Cetacea on Sunday, April 13 no RSVP, everyone is on wait list.

Cetacea, a custom 42' Cutter and winner of a first place trophy the past 3 years, is seeking more Pirate wannabes and invites women (we have enough guys) that are reasonably agile and enjoy costume parties and acting out their inner demons to join this informative daysail. There is no fee requested, or accepted.

We'll enjoy sailing, a gourmet lunch on Angel Island, and discuss the forthcoming Opening Day on the Bay Parade, to be held Sunday, April 27. We have many pieces of Pirate and Piratess costume parts and I'll provide a link to online photos of the previous years Parades. The April issue of Bay Crossings magazine has last year's winning photo of my cabin boy being flogged on the foredeck <har har>.

Everyone will be placed on a wait list and I will advise, by Wednesday, how many will join our multi-year motley crew of Pirates. If you are concerned about canon fire in front of the gendarmes, male Pirates being forced into the water at sword-point by gangs of crazed or grogged Piratesses, or attempted seizures of the Judge's boat (SS Horatio Hornblower, a floating 3 story marshmallow and gasbag of minor insignificance), then this sailing event, and the one on April 27, are not for you.

So, who among you can handle a sword, fire a canon, or let fly a string of colorful prose of Lingua Pirata at the Judges?!

I'll be uploading photos, but (due to Meetup site size limitations and speed), it will take a while. Painfully slow. I also have a video clip of the visit from the Coast Guard, but don't know how to post it.

Forgot to mention: in deference to those who may want to keep a low profile online, I will not be naming (tagging) folks in the photos. Please self-identify in the various shots, if you feel so inclined.

What a grand time! Good folks, good weather, excellent (and flexible/adaptable) itinerary. Lots of laughs. KB was masterful at coordinating details while keeping the fun level at a max and providing hands-on learning opportunities. Clearly much thought and planning were invested in making this outing a pleasurable experience for all. I especially enjoyed KB's patient and illuminating explications on a range of topics -- not all necessarily related to sailing -- and the infectious enthusiasm emanating from our spontaneous captain. And, oh--the stories!

The sailors (wenches all) were a delight to meet and hang out with: varied backgrounds, interests, and personalities. I would plunder an' pillage wi' any o' em in a heartbeat.

Aye Matey, o'r fine Furner, tha SV Cetacea, be slitherin' back to port when she be laden with seizures, no doubt, an' 'pendin' upon the mercies of the tidal detritus and crew mayhem. The Captain, an that be me <hear hear> dictates ships schedules, not tha motley riff-raff, bilge-varmin, and scalawags what occupy ship's positions! A message in a bottle been cast yer way, har har, if ye be needin' ta know! Yarrrrr

An' would ye know what hour the bountiful Cetacea be returnin' to 'er berth? Thar be plunderin' and lootin' t'be done in the South Bay later, and we Pirates have need o'plannin'.

[ Aye, me know what ye'll be sayin' as we wait f'r the news: "Moor, anon." Arrr. Har har har. ]

Hi Wendy, Sailor Dave graciously volunteered your name and that of another that is sailing with our small group. I noticed most people use their first name only, or a moniker, and I am unable to "check out" people beyond their short profile on this site.

I'm willing to take the chance to meet some nice people on this wonderful site and, at least, they know my vessel's documented name and can view 3 photos of her, and myself, in my profile.

    Happy Summer Sailing!

I didn't make the list either, but that's ok b/c I was going to cancel since the weather doesn't look all that great. But I will say to K B - you mentioned you checked me out with Dave. I've been an event organizer for a number of years, longer than you have and I've hosted quite a few events. Plus I would be hesitant to sail with someone who doesn't even have their name (only their initials) or profile pic. up. If you're going to check us out then we should be given the same opportunity.

Ahoy Sailors! I've sent out confirmations to those sailing with us this weekend. I've hit my meetup limit of 12 emails today and will write to the rest of you tomorrow to thank you for your interest.

Thanks for your overwhelming interest and I look forward to sailing with you at the next meetup! Yarrrrrrrrrrr

      Hi KB,
I will not join your meetup again. This is the second time that you have not invited me aboard your boat. I really wanted to go but now I see that you choose people randomly. I was the first to sign up but did not select me again! I thought since you did not select me last time that this time I would be going, that appears not to be the case.

I was just aboard the Lady Washington on Sunday. I think the Cetacea's pirate outfits could beat her any day!

Last year's winning event, before the cabin boy was whipped for stealing grog and then, unceremoniously, thrown to the sharks and Davey Jones Locker: http://www.baycrossings.com/dispnews.php?id=3093

I know all about pirates! The company I work for has hundreds of ships with the attempted pirate takeover on a couple every year. But I think your outfits might outdo anything the real ones wear!

No fee, as stated in the posting. Everyone joins the wait list until Wednesday, so get on the list soon. Those selected to sail will join my regulars to discuss the Opening Day Parade event, attire, our "skit" or choreography, etc. Please, only join the wait list if you can also join us on April 27 for the Opening Day Parade!
