Sens at The Embarcadero has become one of my favorite restaurants and I want to invite members to enjoy happy hour with me at this stunning venue. Here's Michael Bauer's review:
Of all the restaurants that Pat Kuleto has produced - Boulevard, Postrio, Jardiniere and Fog City, to name a few - the onetime Splendido space in the Embarcadero Four is one of the best. It doesn't matter that the space sat empty for four years, then opened nearly unchanged as Monte Cristo, and now Sens. Its stunning design endures. The round domed brick ceiling at the entrance, the series of rugged rock walls and a beamed ceiling, an impressively long pewter-topped bar, the expansive open kitchen and the beautiful views looking out over the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge make this space a fantasy come to life. Plus, the leather armchairs are among the most comfortable in the Bay Area.
The view is something Kuleto couldn't have envisioned, because it was designed before the Embarcadero freeway was torn down. At Sens, the deck area next to the restaurant has been turned into a heated lounge and private room, making it a great venue for private parties and receptions.
There's a bit of Las Vegas magic at work at Sens, which creates a Mediterranean oasis in an urban office and shopping tower. To get to the restaurant, diners can take an escalator or elevator up to its third-floor perch, but it's even more pleasant to follow the circular yellow brick path that gently ascends to the scarred wood doors of Sens. Along the way, diners can gaze down on a pool and festive plantings, or up at the monolithic Hyatt Hotel, which actually looks good from that vantage point.
I will get there around 4:45ish to secure a table hopefully with a view and let the host/hostess know where I'm at. If I'm able to secure a table I will post the table no. on here.
Note: this event has also been posted on another meetup.
