Pirate Radio: The Boat that Rocked Palo Alto Square, Wednesday November 17th, 7:15pm Come see the new movie Pirate Radio, which is about one of the historical precedents for seasteading discussed in the Seasteading Book! Here's a Trailer. We're meeting at CineArts Palo Alto Square at 7:15PM, and having dinner at the Fish Market nearby afterwards at 9PM-ish. About the movie: In the 1960s, the BBc would only play 2 hours of pop and rock music a week. In the land that gave the world The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, their own citizens weren't able to find a place to listen to it. Until a barrage of "pirate radio" stations emerged, transmitting non-stop rock from boats just on the side of international waters. This is the fictionalized accounts of what happened on one of these boats. While all reports indicate that Pirate Radio has more in common with Pump Up the Volume and Almost Famous than Armistad, there are clear libertarian implications and lots of real history at work, so with a great group of Seasteaders there's sure to be a great post-movie discussion. Pick up your ticket ahead of time on Fandango

Fellow Seasteaders, We hope you can join us for the November seasteading social on Wednesday, November 4th @ 7:00pm in San Francisco! The social will be in the billiards room at Jillian's (http://sanfrancisco .jbcent.com/), located inside the Metreon in downtown San Francisco. The address is 101 4th St. It'll be a laid back social, no set agenda -- just a good chance to hang out with other seasteaders and have some fun! We'll have a few complimentary appetizers, and Jillian's has a full menu and bar you can order from. This is our first social since last month's conference and Ephemerisle, the two largest seasteading events to date. If you were there, stop by and swap some photos and stories about your experiences... and if not, come by and listen to others'! If you have any further questions, you can reach me at eric@seasteading.org . Thanks and hope to see you there! Eric Jacobus Man of Action The Seasteading Institute

Note: Registration / RSVP / Payment are not on Meetup.com! This event just a placeholder. Go to ephemerisle.org - Get Ready to register! From the press release: The Seasteading Institute Announces the First Annual Ephemerisle Festival of Politics, Community, and Art The Seasteading Institute is excited to announce that public registration is open for the first annual Ephemerisle Festival, being held October 2-4, 2009 in the Sacramento River Delta. Ephemerisle is a floating festival of politics, community, and art in celebration of political freedom and diversity. Opportunities to connect, learn, and play will abound: there will be music, dance, open mic performances, and even classes on how to build your own floating platform. Ephemerisle will not be a spectator event, though there will be plenty to see. Participants will shape the festival's very foundation by bringing their boats, rafts and unique homebuilt floating structures to expand the event's central platform. They will also bring their own art, activities, and ideas to shape the Ephemerisle experience. This event has been over 8 years in the making. Back in 2001, tired of people talking about alternative social systems instead of trying them out, TSI's founder Patri Friedman envisioned a floating festival in international waters. Participants would gather to temporarily live their own utopian visions, and return enriched and inspired to turn those dreams into real societies. In 2009, this dream will finally become a reality. Ephemerisle will provide a fun and innovative venue for the public to get their first taste of seasteading. We intend to stretch Ephemerisle every year, growing it in size and duration, and also moving it further and further out towards international waters, until it becomes a de facto seastead city. We aren't content to simply dream of a freer world: we want to live it! This will be a long process -- but it starts this October. To learn more about Ephemerisle and how to get involved please visit: http://www.ephemeris le.org/.

Hello Fellow Seasteaders, As the weather turns warmer, it's time to have some fun with our socials. Fabulous TSI volunteer Na'ama Moran has graciously agreed to host a BBQ party for our June meetup, so come out, grill yourself some burgers and chat about seasteading. We'll have some grilling stuff on hand, but please bring anything in particular you'd like to grill/eat. We'll also have a display of the recent seasteading design contest winners, and we'll be doing a Q&A about some of TSI's new initiatives like Cruise Ship Condos, the Grant Program, Ephemerisle and more. This will be a great social to introduce new people to the ideas and ideals of TSI, so bring your friends! We look forward to seeing all of you soon. Thanks, Liz Lacy Driving Directions: Driving on 280, take the Sand Hill Road exit towards Woodside. Stay on Sand Hill Road. Sand Hill Road becomes Portola Road (*don't take any turns, but stay on the same road*) - stay on this road until you see a wood sign on your right hand side: "Welcome to Portola Valley" - immediately after this sign you will see a row of black post boxes. The right turn immediately after is Hayfields Road. Take this windy road all the way up to the top of the hill. The house is the one with a garage at the front - overlooking the bay.

Patri was interviewed about seasteading for a Discovery Channel television show which is about to premiere. We are not the main focus of the episode, so we have no idea how much footage they will use, probably just a few minutes, but it will be fun to see us on television! (Unfortunately none of the clubstead animations/models or design contest winners were done in time for this show's production process. Next time...) Here is the show description Mega Engineering, City at Sea, TV-PG, June 8th, 10PM & 1AM EST/PST. New Orleans is under siege. The old defenses - levees and canals - can't be counted on any longer. But some engineers are saying the way to save New Orleans is to build a floating city: a new New Orleans, buoyed up by the water, not drowning under it.

TSI will be having a booth at the always awesome and exciting Maker Faire! Come out for a chance to see the TSI gang, and try to build your own model seastead. We will have displays of the winning seastead designs from our design contest, information on our new grant program and of course, plenty of equipment to build your own ministead and see if it can stand up to the water. Maker Faire is May 30th and 31st, 10-8 on Saturday and 10-6 on Sunday. You can still buy tickets online, or get them at the door. More information available at http://makerfaire.co m/

Fellow Seasteaders, We hope you will be able to join us for the May seasteading social! This month, we'll be joined by a Canadian documentary team who will be filming the event. They're very interested in meeting and interviewing enthusiastic seasteading supporters, so please come out and show your support for TSI and seasteading. We'll be at The Rose and Crown in Palo Alto, a great little pub with good food. We're changing things up to have a weeknight social for a bit of variety, so come and relax with us after work and talk about all things seasteading. If you have any questions about the documentary team, please let me know. You can reach me at liz@seasteading.org. Thanks! Liz Lacy Director of Development The Seasteading Institute
