Hike at Grant County Park

  • Feb 24, 2013 · 11:00 AM

Hi All,
This will be about 9 mile hike [moderate+, can be strenuous for some] at this beautiful park.

JD Grant County Park, a great place to see tadpoles, salamander larvae, and other wildlife of the vernal ponds.Featured Photo

We'll have lunch/nap next to a pretty lake in the remote area of the park :).

Hike Highlights: oak forests, meadows, grasslands, cows, ridges with views, lake, ponds and fun people :)
This park is known for wildlife too...

We'll meet at the parking lot at the trailhead at 11:00am

Directions: [It's about 1 hr 15mins from SF]

From Highway 101 or 680 in San Jose, take Alum Rock Ave. exit.
Go east toward the hills on Alum rock ave.
Turn right on Mt Hamilton Road [you will see a sign 130 Mt Hamilton Road]
After about 7.6 miles, you will get to the park's main entrance on the right.
Turn right into the park road.
You will pass through the entry kiosk.
Here is the important part
The parking is a bit confusing there...
After you pass the entrance station there, keep driving straight on the park road.
You will pass a big parking lot with restrooms on the left.
Do not go in there. Keep driving straight.
You will reach a split in the road with a roundabout [according to google aerial view :)]
Take a left there and you will be in a parking lot with restrooms.
Park and meet near the restrooms there.

I think there is a fee of $6 to park here....

Here's the parking lot we'll be meeting:

Here's a map to help with the parking:
Map for Parking

Above is just to get an idea...use the GPS coordinates below and look at a map to figure out the directions :)

GPS coordinates for the park turn: N[masked] W[masked]

Here's the google streetview of the park entrance:

There is another dirt parking lot on the left side of the Hamilton road just past the park entrance. If you see that, you missed the park entrance.

No dogs allowed in the park :(

Bring lunch and something to share if u like. :)

See u there!

Disclaimer: Its your own responsibility to look after yourself on the hike if u decide to join us. You assume all the risks including sharing my lunch :)

NOTE: As usual since meetup site has removed the maybe option, feel free to sign up as yes and not go or not sign up and just show up...or whatever other combinations possible ;)

Will take riders from SF and peninsula. Better to call me[masked] than email. Leaving outer Richmond 9:30 a.m. Can pick up on west side of SF and along 280 corridor.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
