Full moon hike at Marin Headlands

  • September 29, 2012 · 5:00 PM

ok, Sat is supposed to be warm and is a full moon [supposed to be not foggy Sat night]....so here's a full moon hike for a little Sat evening fun :)

So this will be at the Rodeo beach at Marin headlands.
This will be about 6 mile round-trip hike [about half a mile is steep to the top of slacker hill].
We'll start at the Rodeo beach parking lot. Then hike up to Slacker hill with a great view. Have food and drinks watching the sunset and the city lights coming up...and the full moon rising [moon rise is at 6:32pm]. Hangout for a while..[as usual, if you are in a hurry to get back earlier, try to have the map with you and make sure you know your way back]
Then hike back around the Rodeo lagoon ending at the Rodeo beach. We can hangout again at the beach for a while until we get bored of having fun ;)

After that, we can go hangout at the Smitty's bar at Sausalito if there is interest....

So, that's the plan....
Please bring food/snacks/wine/drinks to share....running out of wine can be the worst thing that can happen at the top of that hill when you are having fun :)
It can be as simple as like chips and salsa, cheese crackers etc...AND a bottle of a drink....and don't forget your cup :)

The dinner spot is not paved, so a blanket is recommended if you have one.
I will bring a blanket or something to keep the food collection on.

Don't forget your headlamp/flashlight, so you don't trip and fall [especially if you had wine ;)].
I will try to bring a small lantern and if you have one, feel free to bring it also..

Also if you have not been here, there is a good chance you will miss the slacker hill path. So try to wait at the junctions in that case :)

We'll meet at the Rodeo beach parking lot at 5:00pm and may be start walking around 5:15 or so.
It's a big parking lot. So we can meet near the garbage/recycle bins located across the road from the parking lot.
Here's the google streetview showing the garbage/recycle bins

From SF, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and exit at Alexander (the first exit past the view point turnoff). Keep right at the first fork.
After about 0.3 mile, turn left onto Bunker Road [watch for the brown park signs.
There is a one-way tunnel which cuts under 101, and you may need to wait up to 5 minutes for your turn to travel through it.
From the other side of the tunnel, drive to the end of the road and the Rodeo beach parking lot is on the right.

Please leave a note on your dashboard saying 'on full moon hike',['coast trail to slacker hill'] and contact number so the park police knows when they see all the cars parked. According to the visitor center, you are only not supposed to park after midnight. But they suggested letting the park police know just in case. Hence the note suggestion.

Dogs are NOT allowed on part of this trail sad

See u soon! :)

Love the notion of moonlit hikes and too chicken to go by myself. Please plan more!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
