Hike at Diablo Foothills Regional Park

  • Jan 1, 2013 · 11:30 AM

Hi all,
Here's a hike to start the new year with some exercise and fun at this beautiful place :)

This will be a about 7+ mile moderate hike [with a couple of steep sections] at the beautiful diablo foothills park and shell ridge open space. This is near walnut creek in East bay.

Hike Highlights:Rolling grasslands, ponds, rock formations, views and fun people.
Bring enough water, lunch and something to share if u like [remember the old saying, tastier snacks get you more friends ;)]
I will bring some wine to celebrate the new year...and feel free to bring one if you like :)

We'll have a late lunch/nap at a picnic area or a viewpoint.

We'll meet at the Livorna staging area at 11:30AM.

From East bay, take 24 east to 680 south.
Exit Livorna road [east].
Go east on Livorna road about 1.5 miles Livorna Staging Area, on the left side of the road.

From South bay, take 680 North, take Livorna exit [east] and follow the directions above.

The above is just to give you an idea of where it is. Use GPS co-ordinates and google maps to find your directions in advance so you don't get lost :)

If the parking lot is full, you can go back a bit and park on a side street like Miranda ln or somewhere [look at the map] and walk to the parking lot.

GPS coordinates [approximate]: N[masked] W[masked]

WARNING: There are some tricky junctions on this one. So please wait at the junctions if you are not sure which way to go. Best idea is to try to stick with your carpools :)
Dogs are allowed in this park smile

We may go for dinner/drinks at Walnut creek after the hike to celebrate the New year if you are interested in joining [probably at the Sargam Indian restaurant].

Disclaimer: Its your own responsibility to look after yourself on the event if u decide to join us. You assume all the risks including sharing my lunch ;)

Oooh I am a definite maybe! :) Depends on how late my NYE ends up being, but this sounds like a lot of fun. At the very least, I could meet you guys up for dinner/drinks. Is there someone I could text to see where you end up?

I'm interested in going if I can find some people that want to split the cost of getting a ZipCar for the day! Would be leaving from NOPA/Alamo area but could pick folks up on the way down to the highway.
