Warning about a meetup member‏

Hi everyone.  There is a personal safety matter I feel I have to bring to the attention of all my members.

For a long time I have been received reports about a meetup member who has been acting very in a very disturbing manner towards women at events (and after), including serious stalking behavior and inappropriate touching.

I thought the matter had been dealt with long ago by meetup (I have long since removed him from all my groups).  However it turns out he is still in meetup and I am still receiving these reports.

The meetup member in question is called Rahul.  There are, I am sure, many Rahuls in meetup.  In particular, I would ask all female meetup members to be very careful of this meetup member:

His meetup avatar is typically a cartoon:

I am in the process of reporting this to highest levels of meetup.com (I am in communication with the meetup CEO).  If you have experiences of Rahul, please contact Liz Dickey, the Trust and Safety Lead at meetup.com at [address removed].  Here is a copy of her email stating the kind of details should wants from members (though please contact her if if you have had any bad experiences with Rahul, whether or not you have any of this):

Hello Gareth,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm Liz, the Trust and Safety Lead at Meetup HQ, and Scott directed your message regarding inappropriate activity on the site to my attention. Meetup takes reports such as this, and any possible violation of our Terms of Service, very seriously.

I understand that your report is in reference to this member:

http://www.meetup.com/members/11529766/

and that the information you received was communicated to you by another member. In order for us to be able to conduct a limited inquiry into the situation, can either you or the member who reported this to you provide us with the following information?

• a detailed description of the situation
• links to pages where the content at issue is appearing on the site
• any relevant emails or content you may have received through the site
• anything you received outside of the Meetup platform that would be relevant to our inquiry
• any other information you think may be helpful, including a relevant police report if applicable

You can send the information to [address removed].

With this information, we will be able to take the appropriate action. Please note that we can only take action if we determine that your allegations are clearly supported by the information that is provided to us. Because Meetup is unable to moderate member behavior offsite, so it is very important that you or any involved members also report illegal activity directly to the local authorities.

Thank you for your help with this. We'll look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,

Liz Dickey
Trust and Safety Lead
Meetup HQ
