Ed-Tech (19): Quick-fire Discussion with EdSurge

We're excited to partner with EdSurge for August's meetup. EdSurge will give us a "top 10 tip sheet" -- trends they're watching this autumn -- and then we'll dive into a "speed dating" session where you'll have a chance to connect with educators, entrepreneurs, and developers. We'll start you off with a couple of great ed-tech questions and give you a chance to really get to know both entrepreneurs and educators.

Come listen, learn, share the education technology goodness over a drink. You'll leave with new perspectives and friends in the education technology space!

Just fantastic! Awesome, succinct presentation from our friends at edSurge, and really engaged discussions from speed-dating to the end!

This was a great event. It was eye opening and inspirational, my favorite part was the speed dating where you could chat with another attendee for three minutes then rotate to someone new. They even offered drinks and snacks. I would go again in a heartbeat and maybe they will run the speed dating for more rounds.

This was my first Ed-Tech meet up. Met a lot of interesting folks and loved telling folks about Classroom2Classroom.com. Thanks!

Speed dating (at least once in a while) is a good way to generate more conversations with possibilities for fostering further contacts and association. I'm very used to the two concentric circles model, one stationary and one rotating, from taking lots of dance classes--so it was a good dance class and we become better dancers!

Excellent way to get together and meet people who are doing similar things. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'speed-dating' that let us chat with lots of new people, I had a range of interesting conversations. The event was extremely well organized.

Is there any chance that those of us not in the area will be able to join online somehow?
    Thanks!

Speed Dating only lasted through people. It was really loud. Video had poor quality and just didn't work.

I would suggest a video booth were people record a who is for 1 minute. Or a Ning so we all put up a video.

Dating could go longer. Could split the dating into circles around a particular area: entrepreneurship, game based learning, fund raising ....

A very enjoyable event! I wish the speed-dating portion had lasted longer.

It was great to hear new trends and meet new people, but with a 100+ crowd the room got really noisy so it was hard to have meaningful interactions. It would have been nice to have a bigger space and also a pre-event list to show who was attending and badges or lanyards for ways to identify different types of people.

Got to meet an incredible group of people. Thanks for getting everyone in one room!

Are spots likely to open up for today's session?

Great question! We always invite others to chime in on Twitter using the #edmeet hashtag during events. We'll also take a look at sharing a recap video this time around. As we draw closer to the event, I share out ways to connect remotely. Thanks for the initiative on this, Jacob!

Thanks Meredith ! It looks like I can't make it up to SF from the Peninsula in time, so would really love to participate from afar or at least get a recap.

Need: volunteers and funding for this project.

Hello Carlos, I would like to find out more. I am launching a high tech training program for Latinos. I can be contacted at [masked].

We'll try to tweet trends! And if you've got a trend, you should add it to the mix. #edmeet

That would be a good use case for GoCast!
