Staff Snippet: Labor Day and the Labor Movement

null

I was happy to enjoy a labor-free day with my family this past Monday and I hope all of you also managed to enjoy the sunshine with your loved ones. My fiancée and I thought it was important to take time to revisit the history of the labor movement and to reach out to friends who are nannies and caregivers. They, too, have families but could not enjoy the same labor-free day, as California still lacks legal protections for all domestic workers. Most of our friends, in fact, don't even get sick time, breaks, or vacation time. The good news is that we are only one signature away from setting fair standards to provide sustainable, quality care and support for domestic workers and their families here in California. The Domestic Workers Bill of Rights (Assembly Bill 241) has been passed by both the Assembly and the Senate! We invite you to join us in urging Governor Brown sign this important bill into law today.

All families should be treated fairly in our state's labor laws.

In solidarity,

The program is from Saturday September 21, 11am - Sunday September 22, 1pm. We ask that you bring a packed bag lunch for Saturday; OFC willl provide dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. The whole family is invited to join us on Sunday at noon for a BBQ lunch!
