Special Event: Belgian Student and Startup Mixer

  • Apr 4, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for an evening of (Belgian) tech and startup inspiration with a special session by Instagram's Head of Design, Tim van Damme. Over a hundred students from Howest University of West-Flanders (Belgium) will be invading San Francisco so we thought it would be a great time to host a special SFHTML5 event! In addition to Tim's talk, we will have talks by the students, and one about Leap Motion (see schedule below).

About Howest University

Howest is widely known for being the best University in Belgium when it comes to Web Design. They feature courses like New Media and Communication Technology and Digital Design & Development.

Featured Talk: What's more important? Pixels, programming, or teamwork?

Learn what goes into building an app for millions of users. Why does it take the time it takes to launch a new feature? How do you coordinate design with development and community needs? Why should you keep a team small in size? What happens when you make the wrong decision? What do people expect from you as a designer or developer, and what should you expect from them? This will be an unstructured talk with plenty of time for Q&A.

About Tim van Damme

Tim never graduated in the classic sense of the word, where he started as a web designer in 2006 in a software company in Kampenhout, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. A few months later he started his one man business as a freelancer under the name ‘Made by Elephant’. After that things picked up really fast and he moved to America to begin working as a mobile designer for Gowalla in Austin Texas. After Gowalla there was Instagram and eventually Facebook where he still is part of the Instagram team.
