Just Beyond HTML5: Device APIs and PhoneGap with Brian Leroux

This event will take place the evening of 26 April, which dovetails DevCon5 (25-26 April in Santa Clara). Check out SFHTML5's special discount: http://goo.gl/NEU7N.

About the Talk

PhoneGap hacker Brian LeRoux will talk about new breed of cross-platform capabilities from the W3C called Device APIs, their relationship to HTML5, web standards, WebKit and mobile development with the most popular platforms. If you are interested in mobile web dev for iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone you'll really enjoy this talk. You can expect live code, remote debugging and cloud compilation, too.

About the Speaker

Brian LeRoux (@brianleroux) has been thrashing devices with the PhoneGap project since its inception at Nitobi in Vancouver, Canada.

These days he works at Adobe Systems here in SF on the open source analogue Apache Cordova. He's mostly known for his work on PhoneGap but also happens to have created http://wtfjs.com and sports a   tattoo. Brian believes in a future that is mobile, open source, and will be created.

Thanks for making time for my micro-talk! For any who missed it, the gist was "Use webkit-transform, it gives you silky-smooth hardware-accelerated animation on iOS devices, everyone will believe it's native!". For an example, see the app at https://www.jetpac.com/

If parking on the street, check the signs for rules (street cleaning, etc.).

    April 14, 2012

  • Vanessa Wang

There's metered street parking (normally free after 6p). Otherwise, there are a few paid parking lots nearby that you can find via Google maps.
