Designing Your Own Secular Spirituality

The word “spirituality” has different meaning for different people.  Some non-believers associate the word with religion and so eschew its use.  For others  the concept and experience of spirituality does not necessarily have a religious connotation. Human beings need an explanation of their cosmic journey, and a story of human evolution that gives meaning to their lives. A science based explanation and story needs to be told that is enriched by the diversity of humanity and cultures.

In this discussion, Manuel Manga will define spirituality as a naturalistic, scientific, ethical, philosophical, secular process that can enlarge one’s sense of self, participation and meaning in life. Given that humanity is facing an evolutionary crisis, we each need to create a sense of purpose and meaning that not only enriches our lives but also contributes toward the transformation of the evolutionary crisis.

You will  be invited to let us know what you think about spirituality?  A useful word or no?  Why or why not? If you do use this word, what does it mean to you?

Manuel is the director of the Center for Evolutionary Leadership, which develops leaders for building a just, flourishing, and sustainable world. He is also a leadership coach and organizational consultant.

I had hopes of seeing you there, Linda. Manuel is dynamic and superb with group interaction. A plus for me is he speaks at a clear audible level.

It's a busy day tomorrow. I'll probably leave tire skid marks on the streets of SF
