I enjoyed seeing the pics. Made me wish I could have been there. Suggestion: Ask if photos are OK at the start of each meeting and then post photos every time. Hope to see everyone at the next meeting. With any luck all the family busy-ness will subside by then.

    Wiki page on umwelt:

[U]mwelt is the "biological foundations that lie at the very epicenter of the study of both communication and signification in the human animal." The term is usually translated as "self-centered world". Uexküll theorised that organisms can have different umwelten, even though they share the same environment. The subject of umwelt and Uexküll's work is described by Dorion Sagan in an introduction to a collection of translations.

Each functional component of an umwelt has a meaning and so represents the organism's model of the world. It is also the semiotic world of the organism, including all the meaningful aspects of the world for any particular organism, i.e. it can be water, food, shelter, potential threats, or points of reference for navigation. An organism creates and reshapes its own umwelt when it interacts with the world.

So to avoid a breakpoint in the middle of a chapter i assume it is best to read through chap 4 and call that the mid-point?

    • Sandra

If you have the time, sure. And if somebody wants to bring up topics during the next meeting from chapter 4 then that will be fine too.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
