Learn Node.js Session 1 (FREE)

Based on feedback from the last session, the group wanted to get a primer on node.js.  Berkeley suggested that we run through a few tutorials from nodeschool.io.  So everyone bring your laptops and we will get everyone up and running on some node!

Hi thanks for doing this. Is there any prep we'll need like installations, research, tutorials, etc...?

And run 'npm install' in the new folder to download all the packages. This part is not required to do before hand but it would help speed along the process.

Hello Everyone! I am absolutely thrilled about this next meetup. Looks like we might have a large turnout. We will be needed some volunteers to help mentor, about 4-6 mentors to go around and help other students as they get stuck or encounter problems. If you are interested in being a mentor and feel confident enough to troubleshoot problems please comment here and I will get in touch with you.

    Thanks guys!

I have another group talking about DevOps stuff specifically. You guys might be interested in this also. It is a more hands on sessions. http://www.meetup.com/sf-DevOps/events/184406042/

I have talked to a few folks and it seems the consensus is that we should do both of these tutorial modules in person meetups and one module per meetup. This will let us give hands on help to everyone who needs it. I know it can be a little daunting to get started sometimes.

Of course this is only if the group agrees, but my suggestion is leaving "learn you node" for people to do before the session as a pre-homework and then just do a wrap-up before diving into "async you". Otherwise I think 2 modules would be too much for a single session. I mean, it would be harder for beginners to "persist" everything into their minds IMHO. Another idea is breaking it down into 2 sessions.
