Safari Books Online in Sebastopol is looking to add talent on our engineering team - here is a brief overview. Contact me directly at jnekton@safarijv.com

Programmer – Cloud Data Warehousing and Portals

The technical professional with a passion for learning and utilizing the latest emerging technologies will thrive in our highly collaborative environment. You will call upon your diverse middle-tier knowledge to become the glue between our backend architect, administrators and our front-end guru. Our nascent, cloud-based data warehouse and its reporting capabilities represent an entirely new solution in the on-demand digital library arena. Safari Books Online has over 10,000 technical, business and creative books, videos and articles online, all fully searchable and accessible with a host of cutting-edge tools and features found nowhere else – that is why we dominate the industry with millions of page views per day.
In order to succeed in this multi-faceted role you will need to have a solid understanding of the LAMP stack (particularly Ubuntu, MySQL, Python, Perl and other open source technologies). Your focus will be the design and development of new features, reporting / BI tools, cloud and social application integration, portal development, database management and tuning, and automating metrics and analytics for our newly-created and still evolving data warehouse and on-demand applications. At a minimum you should have knowledge data warehouse concepts and structures, solid SQL, ETL exposure, XML (and other data interchange formats), scripting, systems / database administration knowledge, and API programming experience. Additional experience with Java, cloud and portal programming, security / authentication, reporting / BI, and integration will add to your candidacy.

Based in our brand new Sebastopol, CA headquarters (1 hour North of San Francisco in beautiful Western Sonoma County) you will have the opportunity to expand your skill set and have a high level of autonomy in our relaxed but innovative environment. Our engineering team is a group of life-long learners that is not married to a particular technology, methodology or job description, instead we encourage innovation, exploring the latest technology for elegant, efficient solutions, and tackling and solving all technical challenges. If this sounds like an environment and role in which you would thrive then please send your resume to jnekton@safarijv.com for consideration. A complete HR job description will be forwarded to qualified candidates.
