We may be able to open up more spots, so please RSVP to the wait list!

Friday June 12th, 6-9pm: mixer and software install.
Saturday June 13th, 10am-4pm: workshop (lunch provided).

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails. To register, you must identify as a woman. Men, you are welcome to come if you find a woman who wants to learn Ruby and Rails who will register and bring you as a guest.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the day, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information.

There are two tracks: one for people with limited or no programming experience, and one for people with experience in other programming languages and frameworks. Each participant needs to bring their own computer. We'll meet up Friday evening to install any software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Childcare is available.

When you RSVP, please include

* your operating system
* what level of experience you have (HTML, CSS, Javascript, or other languages)
* your child(ren)'s age(s) (if you plan to bring any along)

Many thanks to our sponsors:
* Orange Labs for providing the location, plus breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
* Vodpod for drinks on Friday.
* SlideShare for logistical support.
* DevChix and RailsBridge for organizational support.
* Addison-Wesley for donating books and coupons for "rough cut" PDF books.
* Manning for donating books and offering attendees a discount code.
* Balsamiq for offering attendees free copied of Mockups

We are seeking additional sponsors, so please get in touch if you'd like to donate or help out. The best way is to email rubyworkshop at gmail dot com.

We're also looking for volunteers - see here for more details:

    We don't have an official repo for the suggest-o-rama app, but I'm going to get one up this weekend that has everything we actually taught. Some of it was on the fly, so the holdup is just one of us collecting all those bits and getting them in a single repo.

    I've set up a google group for folks who attended the workshop. The intent is to provide a space where you can ask questions as you continue learning about Ruby and Rails, and connect with other people from the workshop. http://groups.google.com/gr...

    Great talk- and the hands-on element was superb. BTW do we have the code somewhere for me to do followup? I am struggling with the vote-count thing :)

    •  I feel very lucky to have attended. The teachers, volunteer helpers, venue, food, everything made me feel very pampered and privileged. The teachers tried to cover a lot of material and I learned a lot. I definitely feel encouraged to continue learning Ruby, and am thinking about attending more meet ups even though they will cut into time with my kids. All in all, a great experience. One suggestion for the next workshop, I'm still not sure why we should try to learn Git at the same time as Ruby and all the rest. It seemed like Git could be a separate step once we were more secure with the Ruby and Rails stuff. It would be easier to separate out the various terminal commands if the Git stuff were not there. Thank you very much to all the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors!
    •  Excellent workshop!
    •  Worth coming all the way from Seattle for! (but was not the only thing .(~.^). I want to thank you Sarah (Mei), and Sarah (Allen) and the whole Ruby Meetup crew that helped put on the workshop. IT WAS GREAT! Made it all the way through accept for the last "redirect" and am working on that as I eat the leftovers from my dinner-party of Thursday (breaded chicken with roasted peppers and garlic in a reduced Pinot Gris sauce), and I shall prevail! Great HUGE group of women in the industry and I have the feeling you will meet your goal for next years Ruby conference (I will strive to be there - hoping that my job offer in SF comes through). And... thank you to Orange and all the sponsors (Vodpod and SlideShare, etc.)! Woooot! Loved it! Be well (you and yours - and you have a really nice set of "yours") Jill
    •  Not sure what the secret ingredient was at this workshop which made it a thousand times better than any class I paid to attend--the organizing Sarahs? The awesome volunteer instructors/hand-holders? The Orange Labs people scooting around to get us chairs, cords, food, and drinks? The sponsors? Pleased that all my stereotyped notions about the RoR community were wiped out by this workshop.
    •  nice smart people; good organization, great faciliity and great support people
    •  Thanks so much, it was a terrific help! I can't wait to start exploring my new skills and software tools!
    •  I knew nothing of Ruby on Rails and now I'm fired up to learn as much as I can. The hosting sponsor Orange Labs was great proving us with food and drinks.
    •  Awesome workshop! Thanks so much to the women and men that made this happen- esp Sarah and Sarah, the incredibly nice people at Orange Labs, and Bosco and Ethan who were endlessly patient with me and my new mac. Looking forward to the hack session!
