Friday June 12th, 6-9pm: mixer and software install.
Saturday June 13th, 10am-4pm: workshop (lunch provided).

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails. To register, you must identify as a woman. Men, you are welcome to come if you find a woman who wants to learn Ruby and Rails who will register and bring you as a guest.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the day, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information.

There are two tracks: one for people with limited or no programming experience, and one for people with experience in other programming languages and frameworks. Each participant needs to bring their own computer. We'll meet up Friday evening to install any software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Childcare is available.

When you RSVP, please include

* your operating system
* what level of experience you have (HTML, CSS, Javascript, or other languages)
* your child(ren)'s age(s) (if you plan to bring any along)

    We don't have an official repo for the suggest-o-rama app, but I'm going to get one up this weekend that has everything we actually taught. Some of it was on the fly, so the holdup is just one of us collecting all those bits and getting them in a single repo.

    • “ I feel very lucky to have attended. The teachers, volunteer helpers, venue, food, everything made me feel very pampered and privileged. The teachers tried to cover a lot of material and I learned a lot. I definitely feel encouraged to continue learning Ruby, and am thinking about attending more meet ups even though they will cut into time with my kids. All in all, a great experience. One suggestion for the next workshop, I'm still not sure why we should try to learn Git at the same time as Ruby and all the rest. It seemed like Git could be a separate step once we were more secure with the Ruby and Rails stuff. It would be easier to separate out the various terminal commands if the Git stuff were not there. Thank you very much to all the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors! ”
