TOPICS:

Introducing Pazap by Dominic Son - the one man bootstrapped startup will tell you about his experience grasping Rails without previous experience, entrepreneurship, and will end with tips on performance.

Blocks by Bala Paranj - In Ruby (like in Smalltalk), one of the killer features are blocks. This talk looks in depth at what Ruby blocks are and how they are used to show what they afford a programmer that most other languages don't. Blocks turn out to be a general purpose approach to creating clear, clean, versatile and often elegantly encapsulated interfaces. They are a pervasive design element in the best Ruby code.

Zero to One Million Users in Four Weeks by Harris Tsim - How LinkedIn scale their Bumper Sticker app on Facebook. Using outsourced hardware and one engineer, LinkedIn was able to build a Ruby on Rails app that is now supporting 13 million page views per day. Find out which plugins they used, how they scaled MySQL, and utilized memcache to do all this.

Writing a Domain Specific Language by Blake Mizerany (details to come).

David Beckwith will talk about outsourcing Ruby work to the Philippines.

Fun Nu hack by Tim Burks - 5 minute demo. http://blog.neontolog...

RSpec's Story Runner by Pat Maddox will be postponed to the Jan 22nd Meetup - http://ruby.meetup.co...

After the talks, we'll move to Zeke's - http://www.zekesbar.c... (corner of 3rd & Brannan) - for more face time.
