RailsBridge Front End Workshop

Students and Volunteers, please RSVP on Bridge Troll, our RailsBridge-built RSVP app: http://bridgetroll.herokuapp.com/events/41 . If you registered with a +1, please ask your +1 to register on Bridge Troll as well.

This workshop will focus on front-end web development, primarily HTML and CSS. Each participant needs to bring her own laptop and power supply.

In this workshop, we'll build and deploy a personal webpage. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a working knowledge of html and/or css. (You can look over the curriculum here: http://curriculum.railsbridge.org/frontend/ .) And we'll offer further resources for those interested in learning more.
No installfest is required for the front end workshop. If you have a browser and a code editor, you have all you need!

Arrive between 9:30 am and 10am, depending on your love of coffee and breakfast. We'll start breaking into groups at 10am. Lunch will be provided.

Carbon 5 is easily accessible by Bart and Muni, but parking is difficult.

This event is open to all women, and men are welcome to attend as a guest. RailsBridge is emphatically trans- and queer-friendly.

this is a question about the RoR workshop--if we've already attended one Installfest and have everything set up, do we have to go to another one if we sign up to attend another Railsbridge workshop?

For the frontend workshop tomorrow you don't need to install anything! If you're asking about other Rails events, I'd say it depends. Your system could be out of date if it's been awhile. Usually you will get a link to the install instructions a few days before and you can just skip to the end where you'll verify that everything is installed correctly.

I re-signed up in BridgeTroll but it didn't ask about +1s. I have registered with a plus one for this event (my 14 year-old daughter). Do I need to sign her up for Bridge Troll?

    • Elizabeth

Duh. I just saw the bit about +1s above. Sorry!

Is there childcare at this event? Thanks!

    May 31, 2013

    • Rachel M.

I think when you RSVP in Bridge Troll it asks a childcare question. If that doesn't happen in the RSVP flow for you, please let me know and we'll make sure we get childcare during the workshop. Hope to see you there! :)

Is this opened to beginners as well? I have yet to code myself but badly want to learn as I am surrounded by brilliant developers everyday!

    May 31, 2013

    • Rachel M.

Totally open to beginners! Please come.

How do I rsvp? There is just one button for volunteer. Is that also for attending the event as a student?
