Swift Morning Study Group

Indiegogo is hosting a series of morning Study Groups for Apple's new Swift programming language for IOS. The goal is to learn Swift with other developers in a supportive environment. For our first Study Group, we will go over "Experiments" in the Swift Book (free from iTunes).

Continental breakfast will be provided.

You are allowed to bring your bicycle into the Event Space.

Prerequisites:

• Sign up for an Apple Developers account ($99) and download Xcode 6 beta 3 that contains Swift. Indiegogo will NOT be providing this download.

• Install the Xcode 6 beta 3 download.

• Download the Swift Book (free) from iTunes.

• Skim the book and watch the Introduction to Swift video.

    This was fun!
    - Next time, we'll all try to get on the same xcode beta. We ran into several differences between beta 2 and beta 3, like changing .. to ..< , and adding things to arrays.
    - Since many of us are Rubyists, we noticed a few little differences, like once you define the type of a variable, you can't change it later.
    - Realtime graphs. woah.
    - We should come up with a prize for most xcode crashes

Thanks for coming and see you next week!

Note: according to ars, it's no longer necessary to pay $99 to get the Xcode 6 beta. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/07/apple-launches-new-swift-blog-offers-xcode-6-beta-for-free/

Of course, we've scheduled 4 study groups, with more to come if there is continuous interest.
