Swift Morning Study Group

Indiegogo is hosting a series of morning Study Groups for Apple's new Swift programming language for IOS. The goal is to learn Swift with other developers in a supportive environment. For our first Study Group, we will go over "Experiments" in the Swift Book (free from iTunes).

Continental breakfast will be provided.

You are allowed to bring your bicycle into the Event Space.

Prerequisites:

• Sign up for an Apple Developers account and download Xcode 6 beta that contains Swift. The download is now free but you will need to sign up for an Apple Developer account if you don't already have one.

• Install the Xcode 6 beta download.

• Download the Swift Book from iTunes. It's free.

• Skim the book or watch the Introduction to Swift video.

    Here's the playground code from this morning. I left out the switch/case statement since we hacked the c**p out of it.

    var str = "Hello, playground"

    var emptyArray = [String]()
    emptyArray += ["hello", "world"]

    let individualScores = [75, 43, 103, 87, 12]
    var teamScore = 0
    for score in individualScores {
    print("score: \(score)\t")
    print("before: \(teamScore)\t")

    if score > 50 {
    teamScore += 3
    } else {
    teamScore += 1
    }

    println("after: \(teamScore)")
    } teamScore

    var optionalString: String? = "Hello"
    optionalString == nil

    var optionalName: String? = "Dylan"
    var greeting = "Hello!"

    if let name = optionalName {
    greeting = "Hello, \(name)"
    } else {
    greeting = "Yo stranger!"
    }

    Tomorrow morning, we will be using Xcode 6 beta 4 - https://developer.apple.com/swift/resources/

    Please download and install ahead of time - we don't have enough bandwidth for 10+ people to download 2+ GB at the same time.
