6:30-9:30pm

Saturday October 22: Workshop

9:30am-4pm: Workshop
4:30pm: After-party for volunteers & attendees (Venue TBD)

WORKSHOP LOCATION:

Engine Yard

500 Third Street, Suite 510
San Francisco, CA 94107

WORKSHOP:

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are interested in learning Ruby on Rails. To register, you must identify as a woman. Men, you are welcome to come if you find a woman who wants to learn Ruby on Rails who will register and bring you as a guest.

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information. We'll meet up on Friday to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code.

Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our previous workshops are all welcome. We'll have different classes separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring his or her own computer and power supply.

When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your operating system, level and type of programming experience, and whether you will require childcare. (Please let us know during registration or before the event if you need childcare- if no one indicates that they need childcare before the event, we will not make arrangements to provide it.)

We'll have pizza Friday night during the install fest and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  Vegetarian options will be available.

**Anyone interested in volunteering as a teacher, TA, or with logistics, you do not need to RSVP to this meetup- there will be a separate Volunteer Meetup posted.**

If you have questions or ideas for us, the best way to get in touch is to send a message to the organizers.

This is a fabulous offering and opportunity for women to learn in a "non-testosterone-flying" environment. Meaning, it's really a great environment for women to learn without feeling competitive and thus, self-conscious, about looking like a hotdog coder. The assistants, both guys and gals, have been extremely helpful and patient. This is the best development workshop I've ever been to! Thanks, Railsbridge group. I'm going to recommend this to everyone, and hope to keep coming and learning. Awesome!

I was looking forward to attending this evening but am suddenly unable to; I will, however, be in attendance tomorrow. On the heels of Lea's question, is it possible to get a list of the installments we need? I have Ruby 1.9.2 and I can install Rails, I just need to know the version. Thank you!

Hi Ines - sent you an email, but no response yet. Just wondering, I'm coming, but already have ruby installed on my machine. Do I still need to go Friday night to the install-fest? Please let me know. THanks

Hello! I went to the workshop last month and got Ruby 3.1 installed and working. Will that installation suffice for the OCt 21st workshop or should I still go to the installfest?
