Got some time and some RoR knowledge to share? Well, great! We need ya!
We're looking for volunteer instructors and TAs. And when RSVP'ing, please indicate whether you'll be volunteering at:
a) Installfest only (Fri 4/27 evening)
b) Installfest+Workshop
(Fri 4/27 evening and Sat 4/28 9:30-4:30pm)
c) Workshop only (Sat 4/28 9:30-4:30pm)
(If you don't say anything, we're going to assume that you'll be at the Installfest *and* the Workshop.)
Here's what you need to know:
1) The Railsbridge Workshop page recently underwent a big overhaul, and you can now find all your favorite resources here:
http://workshops.railsbridge.org/resources-for-teachers/
Highlights: we now have links to materials for the Installfest and the Curriculum, as well as the slides for the teacher training and beginner programming intro presentation that you'll use if you teach a beginner or advanced beginner section.
2) Teacher Training
We're going to try to organize a teaching training prior to Installfest on 4/27, so please stay tuned for details on that. If by chance we're not able to get it together in time, Plan B will be to do it during Installfest. What happens generally is that experienced teachers will keep assisting with the install, while new teachers meet and go over the teacher training materials. However, experienced teacher might get wrangled into helping with the teacher training.
3) Documenting Glitches
In recent workshops we've identified a Keeper of the Updates to serve as the main repository for documenting glitches and needed updates in the Installfest instructions. If that sounds fun, please let yourself be known.
4) Timeline
Here’s the timeline for the day of the workshop (Saturday):
* 9:00-9:30 Sign-in/get coffee/make friends
* 9:30-10:00 Intro Presentation
*** While Amy's doing the opening presentation, we're going to huddle and split students into classes. Therefore, arriving in advance of this meeting is critical.
* 10:00-10:50 Session 1
* 11:00-12:00 Session 2
* 12:00-1:00 Lunch
* 1:00-2:15 Session 3
* 2:30-3:30 Session 4
* 3:30-4:00 Wrap up & final questions
* 4:00-4:15 Teacher/TA debrief & cleanup
* 4:30 - ??? After party at TBD (All volunteer instructors and TAs will get a free drink! w00t!)
Hope you can join us!
Extremely unwelcoming of volunteers relative to the purported need for them.

Howdy, folks. A bunch of folks here on the volunteer signup page RSVPd to the students' signup page as well. http://www.sfruby.info/events/6...
Which is fine if you're waiting to see what the wait list can offer. However, it turns out a number of people cross-registered by mistake. So if you're a definite Yes for volunteering, please cancel your RSVP on the student page so we can fill that slot with a wait-lister. Thanks for giving your time to Railsbridge! We're grateful to have you.

This event is so great! Thanks to twitter for hosting this. Just about all of the volunteers & teachers are wonderful and create a safe space for women to learn ruby on rails.
I wrote another note, but as a beginner who's volunteered and attended classes--really try and make sure to group the Windows laptop people together with a windows volunteer. I tried doing the curriculum and install on a macintosh versus a PC and it's a MUCH easier experience on a mac.
