We're looking for workshop volunteers! We always want instructors and TAs. We also have many other (non-technical) roles available, including check-in, keeping track of glitches in the documentation, taking pictures, posting throughout to the day to social networks, setting up rooms/equipment, etc.
Please complete the Volunteer Registration Form. (If you want to tell us about dietary/childcare/nursing space requirements, also fill out the General Registration Form.)
Also, please use the comments box for your RSVP, on this Meetup page, to state whether you'll be volunteering at:
a) Installfest only (Fri)
b) Installfest+Workshop
(Fri & Sat)
c) Workshop only (Sat)
(If you don't say anything, we're going to assume that you'll be at the Installfest *and* the Workshop.)
** Here's what you need to know: **
1) The Railsbridge Workshop page recently underwent a big overhaul, and you can now find all your favorite resources here:
http://workshops.railsbridge.org/resources-for-teachers/
Highlights: we now have links to materials for the Installfest and the Curriculum, as well as the slides for the teacher training and beginner programming intro presentation that you'll use if you teach a beginner or advanced beginner section.
2) Teacher Training
We will do a teacher training on Friday evening at 7pm during the installfest at Code for America.

Thank you for taking part in Railsbridge! Please do get in touch with Michelle or Ruthie if you have any questions.
Good stuff, but the curriculum could use some retooling for the less experienced students.
July 25
I attended this event as a student and learned so much! So I just want to thank all you fabulous volunteers who organized, taught and assisted. Thank you!
July 23
Tina, Michelle, and Ruthie put together a great event. Everything ran smoothly, and we got to focus on getting the students unleashed through RoR.
July 22
classes were well organized, awesome food (thank you thank you, o'reilly media!). only thing is internet cut out in the front conference room between 330 and the end of the class. so everyone had to reconnect to the wifi.
July 22
I am going to bring the cord stash, 8 and 8 power strips, sounds like we are not sure.
:-)
July 20
Unfortunately, something came up and I won't be able to volunteer. :( Hopefully, I can make the next one instead.
July 19
Michelle, Joe usually helps out by bringing them to every event. He is kind of the secret RailsBridge stash. ;)
July 18
Joseph, there are a number of power strips and we're asking students to bring their own cords so I was assuming we're set. But -- is there a secret RailsBridge volunteer stash? Has that come to the rescue at past workshops?
July 18
Does this venue need all cords and power strips? No way to know? Bring them all? :-))

I did a clean Ubuntu (10.04.4 LTS) install today, and also managed to get through the Railsbridge Installfest from start to finish, partly by merging stuff from the current published version, with the updated draft I got a few weeks ago from Joe Jackson, and throwing in a few things I learned on my first RoR job this past week. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get at least the Ubuntu 10 InstallFest working and stable before 7/20. I'm hoping I'll get a few raised hands to work along with me.
July 8
A quick shout-out to Joe Jackson for pointing me to wubi.org, for getting a really simple dual-boot to Ubuntu (10.4) from my Windows machine. I'm still learning Linux basics, and need to tweak my bootup, menus, aliases, etc, but yesterday I completed my first (short) week at my first paid RoR gig, so I have a pretty complete RoR stack running from a thumb drive. Next step is to fork the railsbridge/docs repo and start hacking the docs for the Installfest and Workshop. Obstacle removed!
