It's edifying to hear other programmers talk about what they are up to and interested in. This smaller group format allows a good amount of dialog to occur. There is just entirely too much "stuff" that you can spend time focusing on, and there's no way to a grip on everything. This format gives you a kind of unique access to developers who have chosen to focus on things that you likely haven't had time to look at yet.
