Hi Mary Jean. I noticed that you're interested in education through Minecraft. I have very similar interests and have begun developing some mods for the game that introduce science and education into the game. The most mature one teaches geology by introducing psuedo-realistic rock strata and ore deposits (for over 70 types minerals). I'm looking for like-minded people and a way to use my scientific knowledge and technical skills to educate kids and adults through technology.
I'm co-founder at EdTech start-up named Classmint.com. We're seeing traction in USA with over 10 schools adopting it. I'm looking for a business co-founder/president/networking at USA. i'd like to chat. skype: rajan.chandi1
Hi Mary Jean. Welcome to the math teachers' circle! Your STEMkids project is really interesting. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
Mary Jean, welcome to the group! I will be setting up a meetup in person very soon! Kurt
Welcome to Founding Moms Mary Jean! This is Stef, the SF Organizer. Serial entrepreneur huh? My favorite kind. Your new business sounds amazing and I can't wait to learn more about it. Is it oriented to a specific age range? Hope you can make the meetup on Monday.
I've seen lots of weak programs for teaching math, no great ones. I heartily suggest reading Number Sense, by Stanislas Dehaene. He is by far the leading researcher in the neurobiology of math. How Mathematicians Think is another book that might be worth reading.
We've had great reception from schools & are now in over 1,000 classrooms from all 50 states & growing rapidly.
Hi Mary Jean. Great points in your earlier message. I am good to do lunch sometime next week. As manager for coworking venue in SF, I am attending http://globalgamejam.org/ SF to be held at citizenspace.us If possible, we could also meet there to chat for a moment two, prior to next week. While the runway is short, I would love to have a team made from members of Startup EduTech Meetup participate and developed a playable edu game over the weekend. I may throw this opp out group-wide Thur
