Announcing a new Meetup for The San Francisco Bay Area F# Users Group!

What: Steffen Forkmann on F# Make (FAKE) & NaturalSpec

When: Tuesday, August 31,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Microsoft
835 Market St Ste 700
San Francisco, CA 94103
[masked]

Steffen Forkmann will be in the area at the end of August for his honeymoon, and has agreed to speak to us about FAKE: F# Make and NaturalSpec. Since it's the last week in August, many people will be on vacation. If turnout looks to be low, we'll cancel this talk so Steffen can enjoy his honeymoon. So, please RSVP ASAP.

(tl;dr: FAKE and NaturalSpec are DSLs for build automation and unit testing.)

Paraphrased from the homepages of each project:

"FAKE - F# Make" is a build automation system, which intends to combine the advantages of [MSBuild, Ant, and Rake] but provides better tooling support. Due to its integration in F#, all benefits of the .NET Framework and functional programming can be used, including the extensive class library, powerful debuggers and integrated development environments like Visual Studio 2008 or SharpDevelop, which provide syntax highlighting and code completion. The new language was designed to be succinct, typed, declarative, extensible and easy to use. For instance custom build tasks can be added simply by referencing .NET assemblies and using the corresponding classes.

and:

The idea of NaturalSpec is to give domain experts the possibility to express their Unit Test scenarios by using a Domain-specific language (DSL) for Unit Tests. NaturalSpec is completely written in F# ? but you don?t have to learn F# to use it. You don?t even have to learn programming at all.
