Actively Learning from Copenhagen’s Biking Successes (NOT Urban Trail organized)

  • Nov 8, 2012 · 5:30 PM

A special forum on livable communities, featuring Andreas Røhl, Copenhagen’s esteemed Bicycle Manager. Together, we’ll explore issues of creating more sustainable cities, and learn about the successes and challenges of one of the world’s most bicycle-friendly cities.

Røhl has spent much of the last year in Vancouver, Canada, helping step up plans for greater accessibility by bike and foot. Røhl will be joined by local San Francisco leaders who will share lessons learned from recent visits to other model bicycling cities.

This free event is hosted by the SF Bicycle Coalition and the SF Port. Complimentary secure Valet Bike Parking provided by the SF Bicycle Coalition.

It was a great and insightful talk even though I have been to Copenhagen last year and a huge bike related enthusiast. What I got out of it are the following that the cycling community need to spread good karma, that cycling shouldn't be marketed as safe, and conversational cycling is an important topic to address before bike lanes are put down. We have a long way to go to make cycling comfortable, fun, and convenient. Until then, car is king.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
