The San Francisco Yorkshire Terrier Meetup Group Message Board › Hey everyone...Diamond needs our help!!!
San Francisco, CA
Hi all you fellow Meetup members,
Last evening our former Vet., Dr. Emilia Gordon called our human owners, Jody and Russ. She had moved to work with the Berkeley Humane Society about two years ago, and we told her at the time if she ever had an issue with Yorke's call us.
Well, she has a real serious problem now with a fellow Yorkie named Diamond, and we can all help. Please read the email below from one of Dr. Gordon's associates to our Dad today"
It was nice speaking with you this afternoon and thank you again for all your help in raising funds for Diamond’s medical care! Below is the write-up for her appeal. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Diamond, an 11-month-old purebred Yorkie, arrived at our shelter earlier this week after showing up at the city shelter with two broken legs! The medical staff at the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society determined she has a total of six broken bones. Because both of her right legs are broken, she currently is unable to walk, and urgently needs surgery to repair the fracture in her rear leg. We are hoping her right front leg will heal with a splint, but she may also need surgery on her front leg. We are keeping Diamond comfortable on pain medication for the next few days, but we need to raise at least $3,500 by next week to pay for her surgery. Diamond has a long road ahead of her, but with the help of donations through the Hope Shelter Medical Fund – it will help her take the first step towards recovery.
Please donate today to help Diamond with her recovery. Donate online, visit:

One of our humans and we two Yorkies hope to be at the Meetup this Sunday to answer questions, but generally, if a puppy has one broken leg the Society usually has to amputate. Unfortunately this is the only cost effective method they have to treat a broken leg when a Yorkie has no human to pay, or no insurance. In Diamonds case she has two broken legs and they are both on the right side, so this avenue is not an option.
If we cannot raise the money to help out Diamond with her medical issues the Society will more than likely have to take a step which we really do not want to even put on the table for discussion.
With over 700 members our humans should be able to do without one Starbucks this month and make a modest donation to Diamonds medical fund, and us Yorkies should be able to do without a few extra treats this month and fork over some of our discretionary budget funds.
Also, check out the list of companies on the Berkeley Humane Society site which will match, or triple or even quadruple your donation and let's get Diamond to a point where she can join us at a Meetup!
Also tell your humans, Diamond also needs a family to take her home!!!
