Need some help locating a gcc binary. Here's the background:

Bought this linspire laptop but linspire basically ask for a credit card number if u want to get any software from their "warehouse". I told myself never mind linux is in the free world.

I ended up searching for hours. I thought there's a single-install solution, but i could only found solutions that involve many installs. You must install all the prerequisit one by one before u can install gcc.

For solaris, i used to find gcc and other packages from sunfreeware. Single-install. All dependencies are taken care of.

For Perl module installation too, usually all dependencies are take care of by a single "bundle".

Any idea?

Problem solved.

Managed to find a gcc272 debian package that could install.

Actually would recommend debian.
Its very easy now adays to install, and if you get the latest network installer, and use a local mirror it goes very fast.
And there are lots of repositories(software libraries). I do keep trying other distros including mandrake, but nothing
beats the ease of finding software of debian.
