Fiasco

Collaborative. Creative. Calamitous. Fiasco is all three! This game has been a lot of laughs so far. Never played? No problem. The videos linked below should be enlightening and amusing.

Here's how the publishers describe it:

"Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong – inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You’ll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started.

FIASCO is an award-winning, GM-less game for 3-5 players, designed to be played in a few hours with six-sided dice and no preparation. During a game you will engineer and play out stupid, disastrous situations, usually at the intersection of greed, fear, and lust. It’s like making your own Coen brothers movie, in about the same amount of time it’d take to watch one."

I'll definitely be a yes show :)...the alternative is doing dishes...anything to get out of doing dishes!

Oh no! Our numbers are shrinking. Fear not, though, because it still works fine with 3 players. And I'll have an backup option in the (hopefully unlikely) event that we only have 2.

Thanks Scott...I am doing a little better than yesterday but still really crappy. I think with the cornucopia of sound effects that are accompanying this cold the rest of the gang would probably prefer I keep my germ festival to myself anyway. This stinks - I maintain that there is a Fiasco curse!! :(

Thanks. I was so happy to discover Scarborough gamers--When I retired, I vowed to have as much fun as possible. After getting myself thru school, working multiple jobs with long commutes, and raising two kids alone, I decided I was due. Many of the contemporaries I know are stuffed shirts or stay-at-homes. Ugh.

Hooray! And...I have a cold. What the heck?! My Fiasco nights are clearly cursed. I'm going to load up on vitamin C, sleep, and hope for the best :)

Yay, I'm happy we're at 5. If we end up at 6+, no worries, we can split into two games.

I wasn't going to bring the midwest one, but now that Pauline's coming...;) (Oh and I have some money for you!)

I get it--I jumped to the conclusion that the mid-week games would be held every other week, but I see now only which night it would be is the only thing alternating. Thanks.

Ann, there are pros and cons either way. Lindsay explained it well, so I'll just add a couple other thoughts. For some games, it helps to know that people are on board to play that particular game in advance. In the case of Fiasco, not only is it fairly long (2-3 hours), but it's quite different than what we normally play. Lastly, the general game nights, which I love, will probably always be the most frequently scheduled event. So those aren't going away!

Hey Ann, we're still doing the regular meetup nights as usual - the idea between changing the nights to Tues/Th was so that when we do have speciality game nights, we don't end up with games two days in a row...moving the Wednesday night games to T/Th should cut down on the back to back nights. The dedicated nights for Fiasco, Cosmic, etc are typically only do for games that are either so long or complex they would dominate one of the regular varied game nights - or they require a specific or minimum number of players so we do them as a separate event/signup :)

I think it's a good idea to vary the meeting nights, but wonder if it's necessary to limit the play to one game. Why not call it FiascoPlus? In other words, people know for sure that Fiasco will be played, but others can opt to choose from a variety of other games. One thing I like about this group is the diversity--games and people.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
