Watch free Shakespeare in the Park July 13 - 14

If you want to go, comment with the plays you most want to see, and if someone else has expressed an interest, come up with a plan - organizing on this is going to be do-it-yourself.  I put a day and time that would work for watching Lear, but the weekend has many other choices!

At the Volunteer Park Outdoor Theater Festival, there will be 8 different Shakespeare plays performed free (donations very welcome) over the course of the weekend - we could arrange to meet and watch some. Various different groups are performing - see the schedule below (from   http://www.greenstage.org/sotf ). Many of these plays will be performed at other parks throughout the summer - see the individual theater companies for more info.

I wasn't able to make it to a single play this weekend. Your comments are building up the anticipation for a great season of Bill in the Parks! Thank the Hea'ns above for so many scheduled performances.

Sorry I missed Saturday, had other commitments, but saw excellent productions of Lear (had me in tears, and a new understanding of Lear and the Fool, and thinking about the vulnerability of the elderly), Merry Wives (great cast), and The Tempest (stunningly well-done) on Sunday!

Yesterday, I didn't find any other group members until the 5pm "2 Gentlemen," which was also attended by Andrew, Laurie, and Gabriella. earlier, I'd seen "Othello" and Henry V," both of which were excellent. It was a beautiful day and a pretty good turnout!! Sorry I missed it today, especially the baby "Titus." I'm looking forward to reviews!

In response to my inquiry, Shakespeare Northwest wrote that their production of Merry Wives will be about 90 minutes. Someone from Last Leaf Productions called and said that their Othello and Two Gentleman will be about one hour. The plays are simply abridged, but not tailored to families with young ones. One interesting note, is that these productions were designed and created for Ye Merrie Greenwood Faire in Richland. There are rules for the Faire, including length, as well as costumes made only from fabrics, which were available during the period, etc. Although I am not familiar with either company, I am told that each has people, who come down from Western (WWU) or once studied there. Beware of major traffic closures this weekend: http://tinyurl.com/omw6rna. Check with the various theatre companies’ websites to find other times and locations to see these plays if traffic makes this weekend difficult.

Hi All, I've been without my monitor for a few days. It allowed me to check this without going on the fritz.
Anyway, Tomorrow Afternoon, my friend and I will probably take in Merry Wives of Windsor, and, if I know if most of you might be at The Tempest Sunday night, i'll show up to that one... As for King Lear, Sunday afternoon, It's going to be the hottest day of the weekend, so I might sit that one out, .. though I could be persuaded if some of you all go :)

Either Midsummer 7pm Saturday, or Tempest 7pm Sunday. I will have my 6 yr old with me, and likely invite friends.

bARABARA, wELL, IT WAS TOO HOT.. i KNEW IT WOULD BE... WAS A TRANS pRIDE THING ON fRI NIGHT, BUT i WAS JUST MISERABLE ON SAT, AND i JUST STAYED HOME YESTERDAY.. (Sorry about caps lock.. don't want to type over) hehe Wish it been cooler.
Anyway, we could get to t he Crest.. I'd like to see what we can get together for this weekend? Ideas?

OK...."Much Ado" will be around for more than just one weekend! Weeknights are OK for me. If it's at the Exit now, it may be moving somewhere else in town before it disappears. My philosophy is: if it's at the Crest, better run.

Glad we're on for "Lear"! I hope other people are able to/interested in joining me for a few other plays that weekend.

SO....how was the parade? Mon. is supposed to be hotter than Sun., if that's any consolation. The last time I was in it, it took FOREVER to get moving and we (PFLAG) stood there for hours just waiting to walk the route. I haven't been since....Too bad, because it can be so fun.

Sorry all, I've been a bit busy to schedule.. I've noticed other ppl make plansl but thread is a bit difficult.. Whats the plan? Maybe we can do Much ado either during the week, or next weekend? Or Tomorrow, it's going to be too hot to be in the parade or the Seattle Center

I don't think there is a plan for Much Ado - try suggesting one using the Suggest a Meet-up tab on the home page.

So far, I plan to attend "Othello" @ 12 on Sat. the 13th, then "2 Gents" @ 5. On Sun., I'm going to the 11 "Titus" and maybe the 2 "Lear" and the 7 "Tempest."

    Anyone have similar plans?

Cassie, how are we on "Much Ado"?

It's playing at the Harvard Exit. Lots of fun places to eat around there!!

    • Barbara

If we REALLY want to O.D., we could do 2 plays during the day and go to the movie that evening!! (with a few eating breaks, of course).

      June 29, 2013

  • Barbara

I'm interested in any of the Shakespeare plays, so if anyone else has any preference(s), I'm IN.

I suggest we try to get there early to get places close to the stage. In past years, I've found it hard to hear from, say, the middle of the lawn or in the shady places on the edges of the seating area. And if you don't like to sit on the ground, bring a chair.

yeah - maybe I'll update it.
