RSC Richard II Live (re)Broadcast at SIFF Uptown 12/10, 12, 14 or 15

SIFF Cinema Uptown is doing "live" broadcasts of Richard II from the Royal Shakespeare Company. (it was broadcast live Nov. 13, and these are encore showings.)  With David Tennant in the title role. Cole sent this in and left the date open because she's not sure when she'll go; I picked a date just so it would post for this week. The dates are Dec 10 and Dec 12 at 7 pm, plus Dec 14 and Dec 15 at noon.  Tickets are $20, or $15 for SIFF members.

This is a do-it-yourself, FYI announcement.  You can comment if you want to arrange something with others.

I liked it and would be curious to know what other people thought. I liked what I think was an inflation of Aumerle's part. Certainly in Act V, when he's switched with Exton, that's a deliberate change the director made, but even before that, I don't remember there being so much to Aumerle's part. I'd never particularly noticed that moment, in Act III scene iii, with Richard and Aumerle alone: "Aumerle, thou weep'st, my tender-hearted cousin!" And boy, does ever Aumerle weep. I'm a sucker for male performances that include copious weeping. The embrace, the kiss, the weeping, I think it all worked, and when Richard's goofing with the crown wrung fresh sobs from Aumerle, that was wonderful. I even think the director got away with inflating Aumerle's part in Act V. Sort of. But not completely.

I think the weeping and kiss and embrace and goofing with the crown all worked powerfully. I didn't like the replacement of Exton with Aumerle as killer of Richard in Act V - that really shifts the focus onto Aumerle and adds a whole layer of personal betrayal, and confused me when watching.

How did people like it? I regret that I didn't plan better, figure out a way to meet up, to recognize one another. I saw Marga, but only realize now, in retrospect, that she's/you're part of this meetup group.

Nancy, to paraphrase Frank Zappa, "So much stuff, so little time." I hope some people can arrange to see it as a group...I'll have to wait for the DVD.

    I look forward to everyone's reviews...have fun!

Shoot, I didn't meant to press POST either of those times. I'm going the 12th but it looks to me like the weekend has tickets available, too.

What dates/times are going to work?? The 10th and 12th are pretty short notice, but I can do either. Wonder if there are tix left?

    I can't do the 14th or 15th.
