National Theatre of London's King Lear Live (Re)broadcast 6/17, 19, 22, 24, 29

FYI, DIY announcement. National Theatre of London stage production, filmed live and re-broadcast. "Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes directs Simon Russell Beale as King Lear in this highly anticipated production of Shakespeare’s tragedy."

This is playing at SIFF Uptown more or less in repertory with Royal Shakespeare Company's Henry IV part 1 and National Theatre of London's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NIghttime. Tickets are $20, or $15 with SIFF membership. This runs 3 hours 1/2 hours. Weeknights at 6:30, Sunday matinees at noon. Comment with your preferred date if you want to try to meet up with others - I picked a date at random just to be able to post the event, but people can arrange their own.

    I saw the NTL Lear, last week. Mendes et al make a lot of interesting choices: modern dress (with certain historical and political connotations), highlighting the play's gender politics, exploring dementia. I'll not soon forget the lead's stocky, bent, pop-eyed, furious, in-your-face mad king. (So different than, for example, the cranky, creaky old Lear that Olivier gave us, years back.)
