The Tempest recap, and announcing King John

From: Andrew J.
Sent on: Saturday, November 5, 2011 11:23 PM

The Tempest is quite a short play but packed with good lines and motley characters. We had great mix of talented readers which (for me at least) really brought the play alive. A fun, rambling and animated conversation followed - about magic, technology, imagination and suspension of disbelief.

The new Saturday timeslot seemed to work pretty well - parking was plentiful (although not free as it is on Sundays) and the bookshop wasn't too busy. We started a bit late due to traffic on Denny but that was due to roadworks which are going on all weekend so meeting on Sunday wouldn't have changed that. I'll try to remember to check the traffic and travel alerts in advance in the future.

Next time: The Life and Death of King John. King Richard I, the revered 'Lionheart', is dead. His brother John has become King of England, but the French argue that the throne should belong to the boy Arthur, son of John's deceased older brother Geoffrey. There's a siege, an illegitimate child, religious clashes and lots of scheming. Can war with France be averted?

When: Saturday, November 19,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Inner Chapters Bookstore & Cafe
419 Fairview Ave N (between Republican & Harrison)
Seattle, WA 98109
[masked]

We'll be at the back of the shop, in the children's section.

It's not necessary to read the play beforehand, but it's easier to understand what's going on if you familiarize yourself with the plot first. Please bring copies of the text if you have them, but if you don't then don't worry about it - someone might bring multiple copies, there might be copies in the shop and at a pinch there's always somebody who doesn't mind sharing.
