Winter Solstice Celebration and Ritual

Although this isn't - strictly speaking - a shamanic journeying event, it will likely be of interest to some of you.

Event Details: Dancing the Dark: Winter Solstice Celebration and Ritual

Saturday, December 21, 2013, 8 pm 'til the wee hours

Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St., Denver 80205

Here, amid the longest nights, we'll have a farewell party for this year's turn around the Wheel.

Dance to celebrate the deep still nights, their profound darkness and the informing dreams the long nights bring.

Dance to welcome back the Sun...

For your ecstatic dancing pleasure, music will be provided by Tuatha, the fabulous band from Fort Collins. World-groove, trance-dance, tribal-fusion! This click to their website gives a taste of their sound:

Spiraling in, spiraling out, then releasing on the flames...
We'll also have
Sun-turning dervish dance performances from Eva and the Mercury Cafe Belly-Dancers.
Rituals of chant and dance presented by Sára Rain, and cleansing fire ceremony (outside!) with Renna Shesso.

This is our 7th annual Solstice celebration at the Mercury Cafe. It's an all-ages event. Wear what you please, including your best festive attire and your dancing shoes.

$13 at the door, doors open at 8 pm.

Mercury Cafe = Great organic, locally-sourced food and bar. The full dinner menu is available until 11 pm. Powered by Mother Earth's wind and sunlight.

Directions: The Mercury Cafe is on the northeast edge of downtown Denver, at the corner of 22nd Street and California Street. From Park Avenue, go one block SW on California. Mapquest's directions are accurate. Look for the strings of red and white lights decorating the outside of the building.

There's abundant parking on the street and in the many adjacent pay-to-park lots.

The band was different but not unplesant to listen to. The bellydancers, whirlers and scarf (flag?) dancer were all entertaining. But who was that High Priestess. She was outstanding and totally amazing. I thoroughly loved her leading the celebration of the Yule. She was very talented and charasmatic - well worth coming for.

That was the very gifted Sára Rain, who facilitates Dances of Universal Peace and other events along the Front Range. You can see more about her at

It's an all-ages, no-journeying-experience-needed event, so Yes, it's open :-) There will be some ritual portions but they are clearly explained and very accessible, and not specific to any one path. So, "open" on that count, too.
