A study in garage doors, a one pipe problem...

Hello there,

In this second installment of SherlockΩs, we will tackle controlling your garage doors using simple hardware and software and a wrist watch. Come learn how you too can start off on a simple DIY home automation project. This study will highlight the various components you can use to get started. Have no fear in getting your feet wet here, as we will be dealing with low voltage ;-)

See you all in a week!

Fernand, could you post a link to your presentation somewhere? I'd like to have some reference material when I attempt this on my own :)

Hey guys, I just heard about a low powered multi-core board called Parallella. It ships with Ubuntu OS. It seems they have a 16, or 64 core versions. http://www.parallella.org/board/

The material was interesting and presented at just the right level (not too easy or complicated). I learned about some boards and tech that I would never have heard of otherwise. Exactly the reason I joined the group. Great job!

Enjoyed the overview of potential approaches, especially the integration with his watch.

Hey guys, picked up a Raspberry Pi. Anyone have a preferred VNC they use? Been trying with tightVNC but can't get the Pi to show up. I don't want to have to sit in my office where all the peripherals are; I want to control it from my laptop in bed. :)
