Viernes Cultural/Cultural Fridays

This is always a great event to photograph.  From the street performers to the arts and crafts and all the open galleries.  We are not meeting before the event as the event gets packed.  Get ready to take some fantastic shots!

Hint, live dance performances at 9:00pm sharp at the main stage.

I too, wish that I had waited out the rain. Again, can we have a redo?

Hi Zizi, I was able to take a few photos of your group dancing. I do apologize. Unfortunately I was shooting with a prime 50mm lens and was not able to get far enough to get better shots.... Too bad you were rained out, as I would have enjoyed seeing more. Perhaps next time. Cheers, Rene Triay.

Rene, your radar betrayed you. The rain passed shortly after you guys left, leaving a photo-delicious streetscape, splashed in colorful reflections and fresh perspective. The streets, cigar bars and cafes were still pulsing with music, rhythm and salsa when I finally bolted for pan con lechon at Versailles at about 1:15am. Wish you'd have stayed. Look forward to catching up next time.

Scott, This affirms, you can dump tons of water on little Havana Streets, but you cannot dampen the Cuban spirit and their ability to rise above adversity.....After reading your very articulate descriptions, Im sorry now I left so early.

Those too easily discouraged by the early evening downpour missed a fiesta of color and culture far beyond expectation. The rain began to ease at about 8:45pm, leaving a photo-delicious streetscape, splashed in colorful reflections and fresh perspective. The streets, cigar bars and cafes were still pulsing with music, rhythm and salsa when I finally bolted for Versailles at about 1:15am. Until last night, I thought I knew Calle Ocho. Yet, unbuttoning Calle Ocho on a wet, steamy summer night was kinda like night-diving on a reef you've dived in daylight a dozen times before. You know the destination, but the luminescence of the reef and its marine life ignite an underwater fireworks show that makes the visit an entirely different experience. That's precisely what I took away from my Calle Ocho experience last night. Wet, wild and wonderful.

Call me gringo loco, but I hope it pours again when this Shoot Miami meetup is rescheduled. Y'gotta see it with your own lens!!

My friend and I got there at 8, stepped out of the car and it started to pour. Got a few shots of the cyclists, figured it wasn't going to let up, and then left. Avoided cyclists by taking circuitous route to Versailles restaurant where we had dinner. Disappointed that I missed dancing. How about a redo?

It started raining just when I was dancing with my dance troupe. It was great but too bad it ended due to the rain.

SHOOTER'S BONUS >>> PALO!, Miami's avant couriers of Afro-Cuban Funk, are performing tonight. In between snapshots, do your feet a favor. Stick some PALO! in your ear.
