Last Minute Field-trip to Anhinga Trail, ENP

SInce the weather forecast looks favorable, and before it gets too hot, I thought a visit to the Anhinga Trail at Everglades National Park would be appropriate. (I've heard reports that conditions are good, and there are lots of wading and shore birds there now). We'll meet at the Royal Palm/Anhinga Trail parking lot (not the Coe Visitor Center), and then head out to the Anhinga Trail shortly after 7:00am (yes, I know it's early). Be sure to bring lenses from wide to telephoto, a tripod, comfortable walking shoes, and water since there are limited facilities at Royal Palm. Feel free to call or text me @[masked] if you have any questions or need directions.

If anyone is interested after we walk around the Trail for a few hours, we can head over to Robert's for shakes, or stop in Florida City for a quick bite.

Worked out well. Although not an abundance of birds, the weather was cool with low humidity, and the birds that were there afforded some good shots. We had a great group of people, and it turned out to be a fun outing.

FYI, the park service provides free tarps at Anhinga Trail for those who want to protect their cars.

Hey James, I will be interested in getting it. Will they be available for the time that we're going to be there at 7am?

      March 6, 2014

    • Marlene S

I've been there..the tarps are there-first come, first serve--as long as the park is open. you will see bin at parking lot...honor system, return after use for next person.

Haven't been there this season. Hope I can go. HOWEVER Trail "newbies" should be made aware of the turkey vulture "situation" there. Twice in the past they have "eaten" the rubber gaskets around the sunroof on my car. I believe they are actually sharpening their beaks . Several hundred dollars of repairs. I have seen them eating many a car. I now place a tarp over my roof when I park there. Again, I have not been there this season, but . . .
