Lynford, thanks and great job. I wanted to elaborate on the subject of how many pics to show. If you don't have the lengthy portfolio nor do you have the reviews from past customers, then how do you detail that you can get the job done over the seasoned pro or cheap photographer. As an event photographer who is shooting 3-4 hours events. You may end up with 500 images. That gives you documentary. So if your competitor shows 10 pics of their very best, 10 is a long ways away from 500. So the selling point is to inform the client to ask to see a full event shoot.
If you are in the 85% success category then you can show 400 good prints out of 500. This does not mean the customer will review all 500. But, it shows your quality of the entire duration of the shoot versus a wanna be pro who can only show his 10 best. It is a different selling angle. Having the confidence to show a full event beats out the competition who can only show 10 pics. What happened to the other 390?

Jay, I understand your point. If you want to make that your differentiator, I guess you could make the argument. Have you had any potential clients ask you to see that many images when they were in the evaluation stage? Did you hear from a client that showing more images was the thing that swayed them? I'm all for bucking conventional wisdom. Lord only knows how many so-called experts have been proven wrong by someone who dared to be different. I'd only suggest that you take your cues from your customers. If they want to see that many images, then you have to do what makes sense for your business. I'll be happy to help you celebrate your success. Cheers!
