Once again we are joining up with the folks from the Ghost Watershed Alliance Society. This has become one of our favourite and best attended events on our calendar. These hikes are educational in nature as our hosts have a wealth of knowledge about the area that they live in and are trying to protect from over development and abuse. The hike is accessed via a 16 Km drive along the Transalta Road; this is a poorly maintained gravel road better suited to sturdy vehicles with good clearance. If any of you have such a vehicle and can take some riders it would be appreciated. Heinz says he will try to have some seats available from his group too.
Distance on trail: 10.8 Km return
Elevation gain: 701 m
~ This hike involves some scrambling and has some fantastic scenery and various terrain. A photogenic trail.
WHAT TO BRING:
* Good hiking boots or shoes. Traction is important!
* Hiking poles if you have them
* Proper clothing suited to the weather
* Lunch and plenty of water
* A camera to capture the day
CARPOOLING AND GETTING THERE:
We try and reduce our carbon footprint by carpooling. We also like to arrive as a group to make the outing enjoyable for all. Remember, if you have a vehicle which is good on gravel roads, we'd appreciate you driving. We will be meeting up with the GWAS group at the Bar C signpost and going from there.
VERY IMPORTANT! :
When responding to this outing make sure you tell us on the conversation board if you are riding or driving.
eg. Hi I'm Sue and I can take 3 people in my car. Hi I'm Dave and I need a ride.
This really helps us organize things and makes sure whoever wants to join us can do so. PLEASE do not try to arrange seats with the drivers - we will do that in the parking lot the morning of the hike. We just need to know how many seats are available and how many seats are needed. We suggest a stipend of $5 per passenger to the drivers to cover the cost of fuel. Thanks.
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT:
We need to be at MEC by no later than 7:45 am so that we can load and go on time. Our group has to be out there by 9am to meet up with the GWAS.
See you all on the 24th!
