We will be staying at a the HI Shunda Creek, arriving Friday night, heading out for a day trip on Saturday, gather back at the hostel for a delicious potluck on Saturday evening and then maybe do another short trip on Sunday in smaller groups before heading back home. Depending on the group’s interests and abilities we will do one of the recommended hikes or split into two groups and/or make arrangements on Friday night as a group.
This is a great time and a chance to connect with other members in a wonderful setting and a very nice hostel, complete with hot tub!
This is a family friendly weekend. Dogs NOT recommended, as they must be kept outside overnight and always on leash.
PLEASE NOTE: Booking only through this meetup site. DO NOT reserve your rooms/beds through the Shunda Creek Hostel.

• Baldy Mountain (8km 3 - 4 hours) This is the round topped mountain you saw from the highway as you drove to the Hostel. It takes 1.5 to 2 hrs to reach the top where there is fire lookout. Don't bother going up on a rainy or very overcast day, as the view will not be as spectacular.
• Coliseum Mountain (17km Full Day)This is the first mountain you saw on your right as you drove in with a cape on it. There is a NEW trail head for this trail. The next part can be a little sketchy for young children or in bad weather conditions, take this part slow and be aware of snow covering or loose rocks. The trail is mostly scree in the shape of a half bowl. It eventually takes you to the coliseum part of the Mountain. You take the same trail to get back down.
• Crescent Falls & Bighorn Canyon This hike is 23km west of Nordegg. This is a very easy walk and family friendly. Just keep in mind not to get too close to the canyons edge and be aware of loose rock or dependent on weather, ice. Bring a lunch and enjoy the picnic area at the top of the falls.
• Siffleur Falls (14km Full Day) Drive about 45min. or 62 km west of Nordegg towards the Banff Park Boundary. Hiking to the first set of falls is a popular family hike.
