Glenbow Ranch Hike

This outing will have us explore one of Alberta's newest provincial parks. It has more than 1,300 hectares of foothills parkland. Glenbow Ranch is sited on the north bank of the Bow River and preserves and protects significant natural features, including endangered ecosystems and rare species. It also provides a unique opportunity to showcase the history of ranching and the historic Glenbow townsite. The park has many interpretive displays throughout and also has facilities in several spots. It is child and dog friendly and considered a moderate hike.

*Good hiking shoes or boots

*Non-cotton clothing and rainwear (if needed)

(I would suggest bringing layers as the day will fluctuate)

*Lunch and plenty of water

*A camera to record the day

Hwy 1A (Crowchild Trail) west from Calgary to Glenbow Road. Turn left and follow the road to the parking lot at the trailhead.

For those meeting at MEC please be there by 8:45 am as we will depart at 9:00 am, and head to Shouldice Arena.

And those who will be at Shouldice Arena please be there by 9:15 as we will be leaving for Glenbow at 9:30 am.

Let us know on the conversation board if you're driving or riding and where you will meet. Fewer vehicles means fewer emissions.

It was an overcast day at the start (the weatherman lied again), but the sun finally revealed the myriad of muted colours found in the grasslands. Glenbow Ranch had many interesting features and the easy hike provided a great opportunity to enjoy the last of the autumn colours all while sharing some good conversation. I trust you all enjoyed the outing and hope to see you all for next month's hike.

What a great new addition to Alberta's provincial parks! Trails are well-constructed and in excellent shape. A wonderful outing to see fall colours and enjoy good conversation!

Paul and Bernice will be joining us too, so lots of room to ride. They'll be at MEC first, then on to Shouldice.

@Ryan - walk to MEC, there will be room for you.
@Kathy - at either spot we will have a seat for you, so name your preference. Thanks.

For those who are going tomorrow and have not told us where you'll be meeting the group, please do so today. We would like to be sure that all who need a ride get one to the ranch and back.

Ryan, Lisa, ML, Stacey, and Daniel please respond as the others have already done so. Thanks.

A great day is forecast with sunny skies and a high of 15 balmy degrees and there should still be some fall colours to take in. This will be a leisurely hike and a good chance to get some exercise and fresh air before winter arrives. See you all in the morning!

I'll also be meeting at the Ranch as I live near the outskirts of Calgary. See you all there at 10:00!

Hi Sharon, we will be at the ranch around 10:00 a.m. There is a parking lot at the end of Glenbow Road where we'll assemble before heading out. The park entrance is well marked and accessed from Hwy 1A, in your case turning right from the road.

Thanks for this, Darren -- very helpful. Looking forward to hiking with your group again. I continue to be impressed with your group's excellent communication and organization so far in advance of an event. Best wishes with your art event!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
