Join the Sierra Club for a fun combination of writing and hiking as we enjoy one of the last days of August. The hiking section of our day will consist of an easy 3 mile hike, and we will break for two writing/sharing sessions during the day. The writing will consist of haiku and descriptive prose. I, Colleen Finnerty, shall be your fearless Sierra Club leader and contact person for this outing ([masked]; [masked]), but our guide for the outing will be Dr. Richard F. Fleck. Dr. Fleck is a former seasonal park ranger, naturalist and professor of American literature and environmental writing, author of a number of books including latest Desert Rims to Mountains High (Portland: West Winds Press, September 4, 2013).
The outing takes place in the lovely Mount Falcon Park (my personal favorite JeffCo open space). You can find information about the park, including a printable pdf map, here: http://jeffco.us/parks/parks-and-trails/mount-falcon-park/
Please bring a paper tablet with a pen or pencil, sunscreen, water and, as always, the ten essentials. http://trails.sierraclub.org/know-how/before-you-go/ten_essentials.html
Please contact me with any questions and keep in mind that I will not be available after 7am the day of the outing because I do not own a cell phone. Plan accordingly. If you would like to carpool, please leave a message on this page with your location so that other people can contact you to arrange pickup time/place.
This is the first outing which is sponsored by the new Denver Metro Network of the Sierra Club, so please show your support and sign up.
