Hike the Rocky Mountain Arsenal

Spend your Sunday morning/early afternoon hiking the trails in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal!  This is a National Wildlife Refuge located in Commerce City.  Our hike will be between 5 and 6 miles and is rated easy.  We will be hiking through grassland, wetland, and woodland habitats.  Stay after the hike and enjoy your packed lunch in this majestic refuge.

Directions and map: From I-70 exit at Quebec Street and go north. Travel approximately 2.8 miles to Prairie Parkway/64th Avenue. Turn right at Prairie Parkway and travel 0.6 miles to Gateway Road. Turn left at Gateway Road. Continue on Gateway Road until you pass through the Refuge entrance.  We will meet in the parking area right next to the Ladora Lake Loop Trial.  Please be advised that I do not have a cell phone, so if you have any questions or concerns about the hike or need to cancel then please contact me before 8am Sunday the 26th.

This is a snow or shine hike meaning we will meet regardless of weather conditions unless those weather conditions are extremely hazardous i.e. blizzard.  Since this is the case please remember to bring the following:

• Warm winter clothes (think wool and synthetics; not cotton) and boots

• Plenty of water

• Snacks/Lunch

• Sunscreen

• Optional: thermos with hot cocoa, coffee or tea; camera; snowshoes

Hope to see you on the trail!

It was a beautiful day with a lovely group of women; glad I finally made it out there!

Never found the actual meetup location. The hike was great, saw many coyotes, including one hunting in a prairie dog colony and tracked a herd of deer we eventually caught up with.

A great hike, great weather, and great company! When I left I drove down the road toward Derby lake and saw about 6 eagles sitting on the ice on Lake!

Sorry to hear you can't make it, but have fun skiing! I'll be planning another hike for March (not sure where yet), so hopefully you'll be able to come. After that, Spring cleanups in April and May and back to happy hour hikes for June and July. I'm sure I'll see you sometime in 2014.
