Happy Hour in the Hills Hike: Reynolds Park-A Denver Metro Network Event

What better way to celebrate summer than by spending your Friday evenings hiking the foothills instead of being stuck in some bar? We'll spend six Fridays (June-July) out in the foothills on short hikes that average around 5 miles round-trip.  This hike is rated moderate and will be around 6 miles in length and will climb through dense woodland as we make our way to Eagle's View for an amazing panoramic of our Rocky Mountains.  We will have several stops so that we can chat and get to know one another because it IS happy hour after all!

Directions and map: From U.S. Highway 285, drive south 5 miles to the parking area on the south side of Foxton Road

http://jeffco.us/parks/parks-and-trails/reynolds-park/

We will be meeting at the 2nd parking lot on right (if coming South/Southeast on Foxton Road) at the Songbird Trailhead. Please be advised that there are no amenities at this parking area though we will be hiking right past them at the beginning of our hike.

As always, I do not own a cell phone, so please contact me via Meetup prior to 3pm the day of the hike if you have any questions.  Keep in mind that the hike begins at 5:30, so in order to attend the hike you need to arrive closer to 5pm to sign the waiver, use the restrooms etc.  If you are not ready to leave at 5:30, then you will not be included in the hike.   All participants must sign a waiver in order to go on this hike. These hikes are for adults only with no dogs.  Remember that it is summer so it will be hot and sunny; bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat.  OR (because it's the late afternoon in summer) it will be raining/stormy so please bring appropriate rain gear just in case.  You may also want to bring something to eat since we will be out hiking at dinnertime.  Since we are hiking along a creek at dusk in the summer, you may also want to remember mosquito repellant.

See you on the trail!

***As with all DMN Sierra Club events a $5 donation is recommended but certainly not required.  This money helps the DMN maintain the high quality you have come to expect from our outings.***

I can't even describe how beautiful it was hiking this trail at twilight. Great conversations with a couple of awesome women; it was a phenomenal hike.

So, with that information out of the way, here is where we will be meeting:
    REYNOLDS PARK
We will meet at the 2nd Parking Lot on Right (if coming South/Southeast on Foxton Road) at the Songbird Trailhead

Come join fellow hikers on an exploration of Reynolds Park! This hike is rated moderate and will be around 6 miles in length and will climb through dense woodland as we make our way to Eagle's View for an amazing panoramic of our Rocky Mountains. Stay after the hike and enjoy your packed lunch by the creek.

ATTENTION! THE LOCATION OF HIKE HAS CHANGED!

I am sorry to have to change the location of the hike but there are some logistical issues that came to my attention when hiking the area today. First, Entrance Stations at RMNP close at 5pm, so it is not possible to purchase a pass after this time; the park stays open 24/7 but is not free and has no one to sell passes to after 5. Second, the trails at Wild Basin Trailhead that we would have been hiking have two areas that currently have a running and wild stream going through them so they are inaccessible. Third, there is A LOT of construction on 36 and I don't think it's at all feasible for people to get to RMNP in rush hour by 5pm.

I am still interested. I am really not familiar with the lodging in the Allenspark or Estes area. The YMCA rates look good. I would love to split the cost with anyone.

Just to jump into the comment thread below me: The YMCA just outside of Estes and RMNP have dorms and cabins to rent that are pretty reasonable, especially if more than one person is footing the bill. Here's there link: http://ymcarockies.org/lodging/

I would consider it, depending on price I might make a weekend of it.

Any chance anyone would want to stay somewhere near RMNP overnight and come home on Saturday?
