Hike & Write with Lighthouse-A Denver Metro Network Event

This is our first Hike and Write Event with Lighthouse (https://lighthousewriters.org/)!  The Lighthouse Writers Workshop is a local nonprofit literary center that has been operating in Denver since 1997.  The Sierra Club is proud to be partnering with them for this event, and we look forward to many more events in the future.

I, Colleen Finnerty, shall be your fearless Sierra Club leader and contact person for this outing (as always, I do not own a cell phone, so please contact me via Meetup prior to 7:30am the day of the hike if you have any questions), but our guide will be Dan Manzanares.  Dan is a published poet, aspiring novelist, and the Creative Curator at Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver. He hikes in sun, rain, wind, and snow, and his notebook is splotched in mud.

This hike takes place in Mount Falcon Park and will be about 2 miles round trip.  We will hike along the trail before our first writing prompt; we will have three writing stops throughout the day.  These prompts will be non-genre specific, and fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and poets are welcome and each prompt will have a short historical prelude about the region to spark your imagination.  You can access directions and trail map at this link: http://jeffco.us/parks/parks-and-trails/mount-falcon-park/

Remember to bring the following:

• Backpack with writing tablet and pen/pencil

• 1 quart of water

• Energy snack

• Sunscreen

• Extra layers just in case (in Colorado anything can happen!)

• Hat

Come join us for a fun outdoorsy and creative activity!

***A suggested donation of $10 is requested for this event.  All proceeds will be split between Lighthouse and Sierra Club.  If you appreciate these types of outings, then please support them.***

It was great to be in a group of writers who created such impressive work in such a short amount of time. Looking forward to the next one.

There appears to be more than one entrance and one parking lot. Can you specify which one? Thanks!

Laurie, please click the Mount Falcon Park at the top of this page. That's actually a link to the map that shows you exactly where to go.

Oh, OK. I followed the link at the bottom to the park's page, which gave two different sets of directions. Thanks!

If anyone still wants to go on this hike, please leave a message for me here in the comments or you can email me through Meetup. Even though the RSVPs are closed, we can still accept people for the hike. Thanks!
