Hey all, thanks for the amazing climb! It was great to meet so many people I had heard so much about and to see those of you I had met in the past again. Also, thanks for introducing me to Bend Dustin, I've been working to convince Katy that we should move there. I'll keeping an eye out for any trips SMC plans in Oregon.

I don't know where this discussion originated, but I bet Dustin is to blame...no doubt he's familiar with a REAL mans kilt - the UTILIKILT! Wear it with pride: http://www.utilikilts...

      Lol...actually I'm to blame. I know... A little out of character !

Thank you Dustin for your incredible hospitality from Mt. Hood to your 'hood! Loved the bonus trip to Smith Rocks and the endless reasons to come back to Bend. Thank you everyone for sharing in this amazing SMC weekend! It just keeps getting better. :)

Great trip with some beautiful people! Can't thank Dustin and his family enough for allowing us to take over their house for a few days and Dustin's endless generosity in leading us on Hood, hosting us and showing us one of the best climbing areas in the world!

  • Kelvin N.

Yes, agree with all previous comments. I always enjoy spending time with my SMC family. Special thanks to Dustin for being a great leader, host, entertainer, tour guide and climbing guide:). I had a blast and can't wait to come back!!

Great climb, with a little taste of real winter! Dustin, thank you very much for organizing the climb, hosting us at your house, showing us Smith Rock, and even finding a route I could climb. You are a terrific host.

    2 · April 29, 2014

  • Darren S.

Congratulations to the Hood team for another incredible summit - way to go! Especially for the uncertain conditions you were all dealing with. Not only that, but you got to climb at Smith Rocks as well! Too good to be true!
Thank you Dustin and the other ELs for delivering ANOTHER amazing SMC event!

It looks like we're missing a 50 or 60 m club rope - please check your packs when you get home. Also, we ended up with a pair of green Black Diamond trekking poles. Let me know if they're yours.

    April 28, 2014

  • Rob R.

Awesome trip with another group of outstanding people. Dustin, your an incredible host. Thanks so much. We were able to summit Hood after an incredibly cold morning. Then, went to Smith Rocks on Sunday. Great times!

Okay, so I don't have my TNF tent with me...it got left in my storage unit accidentally. Anyway, just so everyone knows I will be driving up to Dustin's kinda late on Friday night, but I hope to be there by 9 pm-ish (hopefully). Please let me know if it would be easier for me to just go straight to Timberline and meet you guys there if I'd be coming in too late to Dustin's? (I don't want to wake anybody with a late arrival if you all are planning on getting to sleep early and then waking up early to drive up to Timberline. Just let me know. Thanks.

    April 24, 2014

    • Dustin R.

Never too late :) I'll see you at my place late tomorrow night.

      April 24, 2014

    • Rob R.

I'd be glad to sleep in the front room and answer the door for you, Sara.

      April 24, 2014

  • Dustin R.

Check your email again. I just sent out another update! See you all tomorrow :)

    April 24, 2014

  • Sara W.

Is there any need for me to bring my North Face Assault 2 tent? Not sure what we are doing for group gear/teams, etc? Also, are the teams going to be formed before we all arrive in Bend or once we are all at Dustin's? And what's a good "no later than" arrival time for Dustin's on that Friday? I'll be coming off of the Trinity River and need to figure out what time I need to leave from there. Thanks.

    April 16, 2014

    • Dustin R.

I just sent out an email. But to also answer here: leave your stove & shovel at home. I have a dedicated ice tool you can borrow (Petzl Nomic). It's overkill for this route, but it will certainly be better than only one axe. Everyone who is flying will be picked up at the airport. Lastly, tent situation is still being figured out. But yes, you can room with someone else in a tent. :)

Thanks for everything Dustin! I look forward to meeting you on Friday. FYI I'll be rooming with Terrie. :)

Glad to be part of this fun, strong team! I'm flying into Redmond at 3:15p Friday, departing at 11:48a Monday. Any thoughts about how the plane travelers are getting to Dustin's and up to the mountain? Kelvin, Hiroko, Damian; Are you interested in meeting at the airport and renting a car?

    Hello all,

I'll be flying into Portland and will meet at the Timberline Lodge parking lot on Sat morning. What time do you plan to meet at the trailhead?

    Gear:
    1) Don't have a winter tent. Can I request a spot in the club tent?
    2) Stove: Have a MSR whisperlite stove but don't think I can bring the empty fuel canister onto the plane. Can I borrow a fuel pump & fuel canister from the club?
    3) Picket: I have a 24" snow picket
    4) Ice Screws: I have some I can bring if needed.

    April 22, 2014

    • Dustin R.

Steven. Lemme know if you did not get my latest email. Meet us in the Timberline parking lot at 2:30am. We will hit the trail at 3am. Gear: Yes, you have a spot in a tent. Don't bring your stove, pickets, and ice screws. We've got all that handled.

      April 23, 2014

    • Steven

Thanks Dustin, I'll be at the parking lot at 2:30am!

Hey everyone, just sent out an email. Please coordinate your ride share / flight plans if you haven't already done so. Please read the email carefully and coordinate with the ELs for this event. Cheers!

A couple questions to get his ball rolling. I hate packing at the last minute (but I usually do).

Do we have gear figured out? I am bringing my Firstlight unless we have an expedition tent going along that I can pile into. Anyone want to share with me if not? I am planning to bring my vestibule so we have room for packs/shoes. What about group gear. Stoves, Ropes, etc. Is there any club gear that I need to pick up since Darren lives right down the road from me?

Any beta on the status of the routes? I'll do some reading and post if I find any. Rob

    April 20, 2014

    • Darren S.

Rob, will be dropping off group gear to you. List in the most recent email sent out to everyone. We still need tents, stoves, ropes, and radios.

      April 21, 2014

    • Dustin R.

Rob, route conditions are surely changing. Here's a TR from this weekend: http://cascadeclimber...

@Art, Rob, Rodney: WooHoo! Let's plan - tell me place and time to pick you guys up next Friday. Fugitive from work Thur night, so I can be ready any time and I'll even have my eyes open....

    April 18, 2014

    • Rob R.

I took Friday off but I do have to work until 9pm on Thursday night.

Art, email me your address and tell me what time you'll be ready. Rob and I talked yesterday and plan to arrive at Dustin's 6 - 7pm Friday. Takes about 7 hrs from Sac, I'm told, so we should leave Davis by 11, I guess.

      April 22, 2014

  • Darren S.

Hey guys, regarding loaner gear: all the crampons and axes we owns are available for this expedition. And camping gear, or anything else with an asterisk next to it.
(We also have harnesses and helmets, but RCK 2 and RCK 3 for this weekend get first pick for that stuff.)
Let me know if you need something by Wednesday at the latest, and I'll send it with Rob R.

I plan on driving up from Oakland. I can pick people up if needed on the way.

      April 20, 2014

Sorry guys I won't be able to make it. Something came up last minute.

    April 8, 2014

  • Dustin R.

Just sent an email out to everyone who is RSVP'd "yes." Please let me know if you did not receive it. To everyone who is traveling into Bend for the Hood climb: you are welcome to stay at my house for an extended period of time before and after the climb. Feel free to arrive early or stay late. It's time to start chatting about travel intentions... Who's flying? Who's driving? Let's get some fuel efficient car pooling going!

oops! Prematurely hit the enter key. Plans have changed for me and I'm heading back to Chicago that weekend for family stuff. So please give my spot to someone else!

Good evening everyone! Just popping in to keep the logistics moving along. :) Here is what I know so far:

Kelvin, Hiroko, & Damian are flying into Redmond on Friday.

Terrie, Art, Rob, & Rodney are all carpooling in Terrie's Element.

Julian is planning on driving up from the Oakland area and has room for anyone who needs to carpool.

Sara is planning on driving up and has room for carpool... not sure where you can hop on.

I haven't seen anything from Joe, Greg, Mike, & Leigh yet. Please post here & let us know what you are planning. I apologize if I missed a post or email & you did in fact let us know. :)

I'm planning on climbing Hood this Wed or Thur. I'll post an update on how the mountain is looking. Woohoo! Talk to everyone soon. Cheers.

  • Sara W.

I will be driving up from either the Trinity or the Klamath river area, which are to the west of Redding. If someone wants to carpool from Redding or near Mt. Shasta, let me know. I should know more in a couple of days which of those towns I'll be closer to.

Just sent another welcome email to the current team as of today. Coordinating travel is the first thing that needs to be settled. If you've not communicated your plans to the leaders yet, please let us know….thanks!
