Summary: SMC teams summited Longs Peak and Mt. Meeker. We climbed the Keyhole Ridge, Notch Couloir and Dreamweaver technical routes, and hiked / scrambled the Keyhole Route and Loft Route. One group hiked 36 miles in one day. South Ridge of Hallett Peak was attempted. Numerous folks visited the Lumpy Ridge area and McGregor crag. Usually, all climbing days were at least 12 hours long, some up to 18. All of us had to take rest days. All in all a great trip!

Yes we were there...we got off the heights early each day. Lightning is a real threat in the Rockies.

Awesome trip!, summitted Longs Peak and Meeker!

    July 13

Wow! Great trip ... huge treks followed by perfect rest days. Thanks everyone for a sweet week in the Rockies

    • Wayne

Rest days? That doesn't sound like SMC. What ever happened to the "you can sleep when you're dead" trips? Glad to hear you guys had a good time. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Awesome trip! Was with Darren yesterday. Awesome Leader! Picture to come.

Quite a few of the group summited Longs Peak 14,259 yesterday via the Keyhole Ridge Route (5.5 Grade II) and the Keyhole Route, (Class 3). Rainy in the morning but cleared out later.

Anyone riding with me Or needing a ride, I will be at Thrify Car Rental counter around 1:30. Dressed in jeans and light blue t shirt.

      July 7

    • Darren S.

Morgan, looks like only Igor will need a ride. All others accounted for.

      July 7

  • heidi

So what are people planning on doing as far as transportation? I've heard talk of renting cars and shuttles but nothing seems to be set in stone...anyone?

    June 22

    • Robin

Between Morgan and myself it looks like we have nine seats available - for the week. We should have two more (or so) rental cars at Estes Park for people & gear. We should assume that everyone will need a car seat every day for TH transportation. As well, note that if we organize beforehand, some may ride a shuttle to Estes Park on Monday, but may not need a return shuttle ride to DIA the following Monday. As of now I have three available seats in my SUV for DIA -> Estes, but am driving up Monday afternoon, leaving my house around 2pm. I am happy to pick you up at DIA on my way to Estes Park, if needed.

    Hi All-

So have we kind of decided on doing the shuttle? Does anyone know if we need to book in advance?

Anyone knows a good climbing/hiking guide for RMNP ? Is this one good? Gillet: Rocky Mountain National Park: High Peaks: The Climber's Guide

That's the classic for climbing in the Park. For hiking, I recommend Lisa Foster's "Rocky Mountain National Park: The Complete Hiking Guide."

  • Igor B.

Forgive me for starting a non-climbing topic. But I do have a question. How many on this expedition are soccer/world cup enthusiasts?

    June 11

    • Shubho

I am a Bengali and worshipping Brazilian and Argentinian soccer players is part of our religion. Not sure how many shrines have already been built to Messi and Neymar back home, but there are going to be several.

Darren, I received an email regarding a date change. Can you please clarify the itinerary as dates between MU and SMG.org conflict. Does our group lodging still include Sun 6-Sat 12 (7 nights)? Are you planning a climb on Sunday 13th or is that still a check-out & head home day?

    April 23, 2014

    • Darren S.

Hey Bryan, yes I updated it since our deposit has now been paid. We have the house from Monday 4:00 pm until Sunday morning 10:00am. I've aligned all the info in both sites now, thanks for alerting me.

By the way, I'm arriving in SFO early this Friday and I would like to spend the rest of the day climbing in Pinnacles N.P. I'll rent a car upon arrival and I don't mind the rt drive in one day (I've never been to Pinnacles). Please PM me if interested.

Hi, my name is Ernesto and I'm a new member of SMC. I live in Ft. Collins, Colorado--just one hour from RMNP. I know the park well and have spent years exploring and playing in it. I have volunteered to help with activities during this event, so if you have any questions about RMNP, Estes Park, or Fort Collins, please feel free to ask.

    April 1, 2014

  • Bryan E.

Eric, we may be driving as well. Although we will be leaving early on the 7/1 or 7/2 to spend a few days in Ft. Collins and Estes Park/Rocky Mountains before the expedition. If leaving early works with your schedule, we would welcome you aboard.

David Roach and Phil are both driving last time I heard. Anyone else out there?

      March 10, 2014

Hey everybody - we are now full again. There are still many on the waitlist so if you've been RSVPed but cannot go on this trip, please change your RSVP. If you are going to go, please confirm your spot by paying for lodging by the end of March. You can take care of that here on Meetup. Thanks everyone!

Looking at buying ices axes now. What is the length that I should be buying. Do you think we will need them for this trip?

    February 25, 2014

    • Darren S.

Morgan, you should have an ax, standard mountaineering ax with a straight shaft will do. As for traditional sizing, when you hold the ax by the head with your arm dropped at your side, the spike should come to your ankle.

Hey everybody out there, I'm RSVPing right now for this event. Slowly. But if you are interested, be sure to get your name on the interest list on our website at www.sierramountaineeringgroup.org/events, not here on Meetup. Hope you can come!

    February 20, 2014

  • Darren S.

If you'd like to be considered for this event (or any event), you must put your name on the interest list on our website. We do not RSVP from any list on Meetup. Here's the link for RMNP Expedition: http://www.sierramountaineeringgroup.org/events/178/rocky-mtn-national-park

Darren thanks for putting this together. As soon as I have a confirmed spot I will make the flight reservations. I can also reserve a vehicle. As well as volunteer to do a lot of the cooking.

Hey Morgan and everyone else on the "want a spot" list here on Meetup - please put your name on the interest list on our website to be considered: http://www.sierramoun...

      Done!

      February 14, 2014

  • Laurissa E.

I love the new changes to the SMC website. With the "interested" concept vs an RSVP first come first serve basis. In general, when can interested parties expect to be notified if they have been drafted for individual events?

    February 10, 2014

    • Darren S.

Thank you Laurissa. Expeditions are RSVPed about 4-6 months in advance. (This one will be announced in the next few days) Climbs are RSVPed about 3-4 weeks in advance. Whenever we get an open spot, we'll fill it with the next best pick.
