Member Organized: Mt Mills

THIS IS A PRIVATELY ORGANIZED UNAFFILIATED EVENT

Let's go bag Mt. Mills - one of the many respected peaks in the Little Lakes Valley.

We'll drive to Mammoth on Friday evening and either find a place to camp or we can pitch in on a hotel depending upon interest.

Saturday morning, we'll head up Rock Creek toward Mosquito Flat.  Depending upon the snow levels, we may or may not be able to reach Mosquito Flat.  If not, we'll have to add an extra 2 miles to the hike in.  We'll take the main trail out of Mosquito Flat at 10,300 ft and branch at 0.5 miles to the right toward Mono Pass and Ruby Lakes.  The planned base camp will be up the pass from Ruby Lake near Mills Lake at about 4 miles (or possibly 6) from the trailhead and an elevation of 11,650.

Sunday morning, we will get an alpine start to summit Mills from the Southeast (route to be determined) at 13, 451 feet.  We'll then head back to base camp, pack out and drive home resulting in a late evening.

Currently - this is not an official SMC trip although that may change.  Feel free to join the interest list.  SMC members will be given preference.

Details:  This may require steep snow climbing either unbelayed or belayed, rappelling, scrambling (3rd and possibly 4th class).

Gear:  Appropriate clothing, tent, sleeping bag and pad, helmet, belay device, crampons, mountaineering boots, ice axe, (second hybrid axe or technical tool may be beneficial), 2 locking and 2 non locking carabiners, cordelette  for both anchors and a prussik, food, appropriate first aid gear, radio if you have one, map/compass and GPS if desired, cell phone, etc.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Guys...my back is giving me some issues. I hate to bail this late in the trip. Let me see how it does today after all day standing at work. If I can't pull this off, is anyone else interested in leading it instead? I'll update this evening. Sorry.

Hi All, I am not sure what is going to happen with this meetup so I changed my RSVP to no. I hope to see you all at another meetup.

I'd just as soon camp than do a hotel, but am down if we all decide to go that route. In that case, I'd opt for cheaper (4 person per room).

Anyone coming from the south want to split a room in Bishop? Rooms start at $50 there on Friday. I could also be down with just car camping at the trailhead. I'll be lucky to get up there by 10pm...

The cheapest room that I could find is in this inn: Rodeway Inn Wildwood Inn and it is $120 per night, the address is: 3626 Main St. (SR 203) Mammoth Lakes, CA,[masked]

We dont have to stay together friday night if the crowd is mixed. Rock Creek is obvuliously going to be closed so we're going to have a couple of extra miles of snowshoeing. We could always meet at the parking area Saturday morning. I would suggest 7am in that case.

I'm coming from Southern California so I'll meet up with everyone Friday evening in Mammoth. I can offer rides to anyone else coming from the south.
