As you may know, currently I am working near San Diego and may be here until winter. Since SMG has historically had few trips this far south, I have decided to try some events proximate to LA and the southern High Sierra for November. I have created a poll
to find out what would work best for you.
I am proposing one Fri-Sat. overnight climb of a 14'er proximate to Lone Pine Nov. 5-6
, and one other overnight of another S. Cali mountain or rock climbing weekend Nov. 19-20
My choices for the 14'ers are all adventurous rock climbing / scrambling routes ranging from exposed class 3 on the Mt. Russell
East Ridge to multi-pitch 5th class on the East Buttress of Mt. Muir
. I have also included a relatively unknown route on the southernmost fourteener Mt. Langley
: a 4th class ascent of the NW Buttress from Tuttle Pass.
Two weeks later I would like to climb a big mountain near LA such as Mt. San Jacinto
, which has one of the tallest vertical reliefs in the US - the N. face rises almost 10,000 feet from the desert near Palm Springs to the summit - perhaps on the infamous "Cactus to Clouds trail," or do a rock climbing / bouldering campout at either Tahquitz / Suicide Rocks
near Idyllwild, or perhaps at Joshua Tree
. Please click here to vote
for what interests you most. I will post the two best events for RSVPs this week.
Looking forward to getting out again with you all.
